I've recently set up an LCD with the Xenium ICE chip using the SPI2Par adapter (cheaplpc.com). I used a parallel LCD from crystalfontz.com (CFAH1602A-AGB-JP). Now, I soldered everything up. When I turned the box on, the lcd flashed a bit, then the words "Green Giant" appeared on the bottom line. I though to myself, "Good, It's working". But then nothing came on when I got to the 2.0.1 OS screen. Then I went to XBMC and to my suprise, still nothing. The LCD would just flash, and turn off after a few minutes. I got pretty frustrated and tried resodering everything again, but still, nothing happened. Is it a bad solder connection? Bad connection to the chip? Bad adapter? I hope I didn't just spend all that money for nothing sad.gif

You updated to 2.0.1, did you enable it in the XBMC settings. Also update to latest XBMC. All I can think of is either dogy LCD (or wrong config). Or maybe the adapter is fucked, send it back tongue.gif. Or email him see if hes had these problems before.

I enabled it in the XBMC settings. I'm using This LCD. I emailed him asking about what's wrong. Waiting on a reply now. And just out of curiosity, isn't the 2.0.1 OS supposed to have LCD support? I thought I heard that somewhere...

The contrast was very dark thats becaues, check the 5v line also what LCD did you use?

The way XBMC was coded, for the Xenium LCD, they set the contrast in code (its not changeable from the User Interface). The reason you see the text and such fine when it first turns on, is that is the default setting that the SPI2Par sets, but then XBMC sets it to about 25%. this is stright from GG.

there is a XBE that will correct this problem but the controller will not work in XBMC just the DVD remote.

take a look at mt LCD install.

I tried to use 2.0.1 and i have nothing on the LCD

So are you saying there is no way to fix my problem? or maybe a resistor on the 5v line (im using the splicer to get 5v from the red HD power cable). That's all I got out of your last post. Don't mean to sound rude or anything.

EDIT: misspelled word

does you LCD turn on at all now?
does you backlight turn on and how did you wire it up?
more info please, or a pic...

the only App that works with the LCD is XBMC, not Xeniun's OS or even Avalaunch at that matter.

Yeah, My LCD still turns on, but its still that dark blue... My backlight doesn't turn on, I wired up V- to the SPI2Par cause it was right there, but I didn't feel like wiring up V+ for now. And I'd take some pics, but I can't find my good camera, just this really crappy one that I guess I'll have to use dry.gif. But I'll do that tomorrow. It's 11:11 huh.gif here and I'm tired.

ok here is what you need to do to get the backlight to work, you have the 5v line running to pad 2.  then the shorter wire running to pad 15.

the short wire must to to pad A on the side of the pcb board, which is the 5v line for the backlight  and you ground pad K.

and like is said in my first post the reason the contrast is so dark is because.

The way XBMC was coded, for the Xenium LCD, they set the contrast in code (its not changeable from the User Interface). hope this helps you

So then there's no way to fix the problem, aside from using this other .xbe that only works with the dvd remote? And does the backlight have to be wired up in order fir it to work? I thought it was optional and was going to do it later after I fixed the problem.

from what I understand thats the only option right now... no the backlight does not need to be wired up in order for it to work, but it gives off a nice affect.

I belevie I already got back toy ou via email, but if I didnt, im sorry.

The backlight doesnt have to be on for you to see the lcd screen, but there are 2 slight problems with how the LCD is handled. Firstly when initialized you should see
"SPI2Par V0.5M
by GreenGiant
http:// <a link>"

At this point th contrast and backlight will be set to 50%
But when the XeniumOS starts (as of 2.0.0) it usually sets the contrast and backlight to about 45%, when XBMC loads xbmc changes this to 12/25 or about 40% which is quite low, and the problem is that its hard coded into xbmc.

I have submitted to the devs the code and such to update the UI settings so you can control the contrast manually, and Im waiting for them to actually put it into the source tree.

Does your LCD initialize to the proper text as noted above ?

Well, I can't tell, because the text only appears for half a second. But I do manage to read "Green Giant" on the bottom line.

I'm still unable to get it display running on the XOS 2.0.1 the contrast is still to dark.

Green is there anything I could do besides soldering in a resistor to keep the contrast at the same levels?

Try updating to the lastest CVS of XBMC guys... I did, and that fixed a lot of my Spi2Par/XBMC troubles... RE 2.0.1... works fine fore me; only displays "Xe" at boot... but then displays the BIOS you launch, etc...
