I heard the X2 4983.06 is a great BIOS, but I can choose the 512kb, or the 1 megabyte
version. Does the bigger one have more features? More reliable?

most xbox bioses are 256kb (the exception are debug bioses which most are 512kb)

they are 512 or 1mb because they are "copied" over in the file..

1mb bios is 4 copies of a 256kb bios

this is because the origanal xbox bios was 1mb copied 4 times but now the TSOP bioses are 256kb to save money on a cheaper rom...
