Xenium Ice, 1.6 Xbox, Amber Led, Green Flash
« on: November 03, 2004, 08:25:00 PM »

I just installed a Xenium Ice into a brand new 1.6 machine.  LPC Rebuild looks great, LFRAME connection great.  Was a nice mobo, no lacquer making LFRAME and LPC areas difficult.

When I turn xbox on, the LED on the chip turns amber and the power eject button flashed green only.  I have no video, no audio and can eject the tray no problems.  I can even hear the HD going.

I thought maybe it was a OS issue, so I burned the latest OS to a disk and flipped the recovery switch.  When I do that, I still have no video/audio and the chips LED is now red.  The power eject button light now flashes orange.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance!

If you have another non-1.6 xbox around you could try re-flashing the OS on that... otherwise, try a different media in recovery mode (You wont get video in recovery mode on a 1.6 anyways)... Does the eject LED eventually go solid red in recovery mode?

No, it just continues to flash orange.

I have another chip at my office, I just didn't feel like luggin my ass over there right now.  I have 7 machines here that need chipped and fiddling around with the OS wasn't what I really wanted to do tonight.

It's a Samsung drive, I'll try a different DVD-R this time and see what gives.  I didn't realize I wouldn't get video with the recovery.  I have never had to upgrade the OS before so it's pretty foreign to me.  Is the LED on the chip going to red during recovery the correct color?

BTW, if anyone is looking to get machines with Samsungs, I bought 7 Holiday Bundles and each one of them all have Samsungs in them.  I don't know if I was just lucky as hell, or if that is going to be a trend, just thought I'd put that out there.

I'll try the other media 'appleguru' and see what I come up with.  How will I know the OS upgrade is completed?  Later man

Hey bud, I appreciate your input but I guess it must've been a solder point.  But, I am clueless to why I got that type of FRAG.  I guess I shouldn't be surprised with the various issues that I get on the 1.6's.

I removed the LFRAME connection and tinned the wire so it was too fat to go in the hole and then just heated it up as I pushed in the hole.  I also added a little bit of solder to each pin that had a wire from the LPC rebuild.  It's booting to the OS now.

I'm just curious to why I got the amber light on the Xenium Ice and a flashing green light only...  I have done over 20 1.6's now and my LPC rebuild always looks great.  I guess looks can be very deceiving.

Again, thanks for the reply!

Anyways, you should upgrade the OS to the latest XOS 2.0.1 as it fixes a bunch of bugs on 2PR.

Since you've said you have never dealt with recovery mode... I assume you've never upgraded the OS biggrin.gif It's really easy... Put the recovery.bin from the XOS 2.0.1 HDD download on E:, unlock the HDD from disk tools, and choose recovery from the XOS 2 main menu. The box should start to FRAG after a little bit and the chip's LED will slowly cycle through a bunch of colors. The box will shut off, and you should be good to go! smile.gif

All the Xenium Ice mod chips that I installed has a red menu, the last two that I have installed are different.  It's a green/blue colored screen.  From memory, I think it still says public beta 2, I'll have to double check.

I think I'll give the upgrade a shot, if I am not mistaken there should be a way to upgrade the OS without losing my bios flash..

Thanks for the info!!

hey, im having a similar problem here, got a xenium ice in a 1.6, booted to OS 2PR just fine the first couple of times, i tried setting up a new HD and got a bunch of weird exception, so i decide to update to OS 2.0.1, since i cant FTP (i only have an unformatted new drive, no orginal) and have was too lazy to find another HD to use i decide to just use a cd update, o to recovery, screen goes black, i figured its just the 1.6ness (xcalibur chip and all) pop the cd in and it just sits at there flashing orange

now it just boots solid green no video in regular mode, same orange flash in recovery, im gonan go back and check the soldering, but odd that it boot fine until i tried to update the OS

You are correct, you wont get video during recovery on 1.6.

I have had a few 1.6's that I just could not get to update to the new OS via CD.  I have had no issue via HD...CD has been a bitch.  Even with Samsungs and me putting the recovery.bin file on DVD-R's!!

Sorry I couldn't help bud.  If you can get your hands on an unlocked retail drive that would be the ticket!

I got another one of those Amber Lights and green flashes today!!  This time, I never touched the soldering.  I pressed the eject button while the green eject light was flashing, and the recovery screen came right on!!!  This was a 1.0 with a Thompson, so I tried to top a DVD in with the new OS and I got the Halt error.  But, it booted to the OS right after that....friggin strange man...

I am starting to doubt the Xeniums...their OS blows anymore.

If you have the recovery.bin on the e:/ drive, and the power goes unplugged sot he clock resets, it'll go into recovery mode.
