Why Won't My Xenium Os Hang Around?

I think it's a good idea to have the recovery on your HDD

Actually, no.

This just happened to me and I think the reason why it happened is precisely because I forgot to delete the e:\recovery.bin after doing the 2.0.1 upgrade.

You see, what happened is I unplugged my xbox and moved it into another room, plugged it back in, and I think it started to doing a recovery and I turned it off.

The problem was, because there *was* a recovery.bin on the HD it did a partial recovery and ended up corrupting the OS.

I had to use the recovery switch to get it to re-load the e:\recovery.bin and then everything was fine (including my prefs!)

Of course, I bet this wouldn't have happened if I had remembered to delete the recovery.bin from the e drive.

The point is, delete the e:\recovery.bin after doing an XOS upgrade.

PS: the corrupted os resulted in a red light on the xenium, flashing green eject light, a couple of reboots, then fragging.

I am having the same problem but I don't see why having the .bin file on the drive would cause it since it only looks for it when its lost the os.

It only happens when the xbox loses power for a long period of time or if I press the power/eject button while it is unpluged discharging the rest of the power in the box.

Anyone have any ideas?

Im running a v1.0 with Xenium ICE solderless chip and a 120gb wd hdd with M8 and X2.

The reason its a problem is because when the clock goes flat (power unplugged) and you power up, sometimes the xenium goes into recovery mode.

If the recovery bin is there, then it starts re-installing the OS, if you see flashing red/green lights you'll probably shut off your xbox... BAM... corrupted xenium.

You fix this by opening up your xbox, flicking the recovery switch, and letting the xenium recover itself. Then flip the switch back.

This time delete the recovery.bin and it won't happen anymore

(you might get the recovery mode every now and again, but it won't corrupt the xenium)

To get into the recovery mode, do you need to just push the eject button, or do you need to hold it in for an extended period of time?

You flip the switch, you turn on your xbox.

tak35: sounds like you haven't updated to XOS 2.0.1 yet... this fixes your flashing green bug... BTW, any reason you're going to an X3? I personally like Xeniums better...
