Use the xecuter bios 4983 if you have xbox version 1.0-1.5 if you have v1.6 you must use the evox M8.

So Will the M8 not work for me? I flashed it off disc and it loaded the dashboard with evox logo in upper left. blink.gif

Which BIOS should I use?

If you have a 1.0 to 1.5 xbox then use X2 4983, or 4981 if you want to hack it with XBTool. X2 features LBA48, IGR, Eject Fixes, AV Fixes and Xbox Live Protection, and is simply the best BIOS available.

If you have a 1.6 xbox, then you have to use EvoX M8 1.6, you will want to hack it with EVTool. M8 can be modified to have approximations of most of the features of X2 except for XBox Live Protection. Pity.

If you have an HD >250 GB you have to use the .67 variants, aka f+g, if your HD is 250GB or smaller then you should use the .06 (ie f takes rest of drive) variant.

Hmm.  I downloaded X2_4983 from xbins, but XOS is telling me that the bios "doesn't fit."  Huh?  It's a 256k image, so what's the deal?

X2 comes as a rar file, in the rar file is a bunch of folders, in one of the folders is a bunch of .bin files. Are you trying to add the .bin file, or the .rar file? the .rar file won't fit.

The .bin file should be called "x2_4983.06_256k.bin" and will be exactly 262,144bytes (256KiB) in size.

If XOS says that doesn't fit, its because you already have 4 256K (or 1 MB bios, or a 2 512KB bioses, or a 512KB + 2 256KB wink.gif ) bioses loaded.

OK, I'm in the same position.

1.3 XBOX
Seagate 60GB

Running default xenium bios.  Going to flash tonite (needed to grab some blank media since my xenium OS version doesn't support flashing from HDD yet) want to flash evox but can't find the dash.  located many a bios from usenet so I have both listed (M8 pre-1.6 and X2 .. now.. will i lose any ability on my xenium flashing a non-xenium bios?  or will i run into kernel panics if i use a different bios and my xbox loses the date/time [like they theorise for the xeniumOS bios]?

Basically I'd like to make sure I won't be breaking anything or if i should prepare more than my eeprom backup before i do this?  and if i flash my bios, will i still be able to access my xenium OS at all?

I've read a million faq's and it's just starting to pile up in my brain smile.gif

thanks for the help in advance, I got this far!! smile.gif  broke an xbox a year ago when i first tried ;P

My slayer 2.6 keeps winding up with a blank media after all (on the PC) and non-bootable on the xbox.. weird?  I downloaded twice and the MD5 matched up.

Should I flash the evox/X2/M8 (pre 1.6) before slayer should be able to run?

reading your post I figure there may be some confusion with BIOS and OS terms

BIOS is what u load into the flash menu and alloows u to boot your dashboard or dvd game backups

OS is the operating system on yuor xenium that allows u to flash the hacked bios onto your chip

to upgrade the OS u need to have the recovery.bin file on disk or E:\ and then select 'recover' from the OS menu
if u try to 'flash' it it will not work as it is not a bios and will give u incorrect size error

evoxdash is not to be flashed just loaded onto your c:\ via ftp and so on

so there is no default xenium bios-u probably mean default OS which would be XOS 1.0 or 1.1
see post by Gumba on which bios to use
