I cant believe that it did anything if the ethernet wasnt plugged in. Can you ftp into the xenium chip?

Nope.

I went through my network settings in the Xenium OS 2.0.1 and when I get to FTP settings, it shows some info, but some of it is zeroes. So, I click on restart network, it tries for a half minute and comes back with a "failed to restart network" error.

I can't FTP in XBMC either. I have to use Avalaunch, it has been the only dashboard that has allowed me to connect via FTP. Don't know why, but all other dashboards don't let me connect via FTP. I will say this, I use a Mac to connect. The dashboards built-in FTP servers seem to be a bit fickle when I try to connect via FTP on my Mac.

What exactly did that auto-update do? Where did it put the updated files? Did it flash anything?

After it was done, my xbox gave me the stupid XBOX Needs Service message when booting.  I loaded EvoX on a CD so i could ftp to my box.  Then I reloaded pheonix.

I have a classic 29 wire mod running the EvoX 2.2 bios.  In order to have all the cool new features like auto patching, i use Pheonix BIOS loader as my xboxdash.xbe, which in turn loads a new bios that first looks for mxmdash.xbe (that way there is no infinte loop).

Anyway, back on topic.  After i loaded pheonix, MXM worked great, but my original dash did not load anymore.  When i loaded msxboxdash.xbe (the original dash), i would get error 21 - xbox needs service.  This really sucked because i use the dash to watch movies.

I fixed it by loading Slayer's Auto EVOX cd, and had it "restore" the original dashboard.  After that i had to reload Pheonix again, but now everything is back to normal.

You may want to try restoring the original dashboard with Slayer's disc.

Worth a shot.

Your hacked dash should not be called "c:/xboxdash.xbe" and your hacked bios, should, at a minimum, boot c:/evoxdash.xbe.

The Xbox must have been setup using an old method.  The EvoX dashboard file was probably renamed to xboxdash.xbe, which is over-written with a dash update.  These days, we do not remove or change any of the MS dash files on C drive.  The EvoX dashboard file should be called evoxdash.xbe, and you must use a BIOS that supports booting from that filename (all of the new ones do).  For more detailed info, please check the tutorials.
