If you don't have a 1.6 I'd go with x2 4983.06, x2 bioses are far superior to evox bioses.

Well, evox BIOSes have IGR if you edit them with evtool wink.gif LBA48 support too.. But yeah, if you don't have a 1.6 xbox (I do...) then use X2 4981 or 4983. The one feature I wish m8 had was live blocking wink.gif

Do you plan on ever updating your HD to a larger one??  If so, you may want to use X2 4983.67...

That way you won't have to reflash if you upgrade to larger HD.

MXM is a pretty sweet dashboard too...I never tried UnleashX, but Avalaunch is very robust!

Unless you have an HDD >256GB NOW then I highly recommend an 06 BIOS. All your space will be one one partition, F:.

If, down the road, you install an HDD > 256GB, just reflash a 67 BIOS and format G... But to split up your space without a need to is sort of pointless IMO... BTW, if you have an HDD <137GB the it doesn't matter which BIOS (06 or 67) you choose, all your space will be on F:.

IND will eventually support 1.6s, as will a future version of X2 (likely)...

But for now we're stuck with m8_1.6 ;-)

Yeah, I noticed the F partition from hell when I installed a 250GB in a 1.6 with the M8....

I thought I would get 7 partitions out of it.

My HD is only 120GB.  I used the .67 on one of my newer machines, and the older one that also has a 120GB uses the .06.  You are correct, it makes no difference.

But, I plan on upgrading the machine that has the .67 bios to a 200GB real soon.  That is why I flashed with the .67, I had a 120GB laying around so I originally just used that.

I must have learned this wrong then.  I assumed that if I flashed a chip with a .06 bios and had a 200GB HD that the F partition wouldn't hold anything past 137GB, hence I would have 60+GB not available to me.

I thought that the F partition would max out around approximately 122GB.

Nope, with an LBA48 compatible BIOS, F: willmax out at around 256GB. On non-LBA48 compatible BIOSes, you are correct, only 137GB is recognized. However, all BIOSes marked as "06" or "67" are LBA48 compatible.

Cool, thanks for clarifying!  I'll keep that in mind.  I install a lot of 160GB and 200GB HD's and have up to this point been using .67's as I thought I had to.

I hated having a G partition with 30 or so GB on it...thanks!

just a bit of question but which dash is required for the disable xbox live  function of the x2 bios so i can use that so that my friends dont try to play xbox live by mistake and what does it  do exactly to block access

No dash is required; it automatically prevents games from accessing LIVE.

It does not, however, prevent the M$ dash, for example, from accessing LIVE, so if you boot your M$ dash from a hacked BIOS (Even X2 with live blocking) and go to LIVE settings in the dash you can still get banned...

So,

Use .06 if you don't like a G drive! Except if your f drive is going to be bigger than 256GiB, ie on a drive > 250GB, then you have to split it into an f and g, with a .67 bios.

Make sense now?

I think the .67 bios will actually have problems with 400GB drives for the same reason the .6 bios has problems with >250GB drives... and when they become popular and this problem becomes more well known... we'll start seeing new "LARGE CLUSTER" hacks for BIOSes smile.gif

from x2-4983.nfo

what version is the dash on slayers 2.6 or where else can i get the latest dash..

this is why i asked... that and i have stupid friends

The problem is the dash gets updated fairly regularly, and newer games come with newer dashes.

All that you can do is make sure to never let a game update your dash while running from a hacked bios. They normally do ask luckily, but the StarWars Trilogy DVD demo does not!

If you have a game which wants to update your dash, boot into retail mode and let it update it, then boot back to hacked bios and then you will have the latest dash smile.gif

I don't know what dash Slayers comes with. I assume its currently the latest as slayers 2.6 is fairly recent, but as soon as another update comes out, it'll be out-of-date smile.gif

i didn't know that.... but i still perfer xecuter bioses....

Sometimes the simpler Evox is better than avalaunch or something else. Say for me, I don't play online games, I'm not connected with my xbox to the pc 24/7, so all the features everyone seems to be saying are great are pretty much useless unless you have your setup hooked to the pc/internet all the time.

And what's the diff between the xecuter x2 4983 bios and the new x3 configlive beta1859? And since I'm a n00b I'm wondering why is the xecutor bios better than the evox m8 bios?
