Help! After All The Updates And Tricks....
« on: October 04, 2004, 02:55:00 PM »

Ok here's the deal.  I have the new Xenium Ice chip.  With the Beta Bios I was having trouble loading some live games.  When I loaded the games the F: partition would lock up and show 0.00 MB free even though there was over 100 gig free.  Some games wouldn't even load....during the dvd2xbox it would slow to a creeping halt about half way through and transfer 1 kilobyte every 10 minutes or so.  I tried formatting with Evox, I tried the new bios, I updated the drive with the Bios, I deleted the cache files, and I completely whipped everything clean and started with new programs, bios, dashboard etc.  After I used the new Bios the problem was solved, Toca loaded fine, Star Wars loaded fine, all of the games that were giving me problems loaded fine.......until I tried to load Project Gotham Racing 2.  Now it's the same thing, dvd2xbox loads the game up till 46% then slows to a halt.  It's now been stuck at 46% with 2892 MB remaining for the past 40 minutes but the read progress bar is still moving VERY slow.  When the game's done loading the dashboard slows to a halt as well and the F: partition shows 0.00MB free and locks itself up.  I loaded the game using UnleashX's copy disc then processed the ACL files.....the ACL Processing froze so I rebooted it and the game played fine.

What the heck is going on?  Do I have a bad chip?  I've literally tried everything I can find on the net to no avail.  My next step tonight is to install another hard drive but I don't think that's going to work.

Suggestions?
Ideas?
Solutions?

I'm desperate and frustrated so anything you guys have to offer would be awesome.  Thanks.

No I am not saying that I'm trying to play games off F: on live.  I cannot load the games to the hard drive period.  The games that are having problems loading are Live Enabled games.....just like the Beta OS problems before the update (and apparently after too).

if you used the hard drive upgrade wizard from the bios that came on the ice chip, you have to reformat e:

they fixed this problem in newer bioses, but that only helps you out if you used the newer bios to set up the hard drive.  Otherwise your hard drive was still set up using the old bios.

so you have to ftp in, copy all your files from E: to your computer.  Format e:, then copy them back.

theres plenty of other messages in the forums that will tell you how to format the drive using an ftp program.

Already tried that.  I used the fix in their HD tools, I reformatted the entire drive and started over, and I formatted and reinstalled through FTP using three different methods listed in the forums.  Done all of that and it didn't work.

1.5 hours later, the read progress bar is still moving but the total progress bar is still stuck at 46% and 2892 MB remaining.

It's not a dirty disk BTW and my DVDRom (Samsung) is brand new since the Xbox is only a few months old.

When I figure out why they're not copying I'll let you know how they load  :rotfl:

Sorry, I knew what you meant but I couldn't resist :P

Yes, I am having trouble copying them to the HDD.  I was having trouble loading some of them but all of the format tricks and patches fixed those games but PG2 is exibiting the same problem as the originally troublesome games were which tells me that the problem wasn't fixed.

Have you tried using a different app to copy them. I've personally never had good results with dvd2xbox. Try using PxHDDLoader

 I haven't but I'll try that tonight.

My concern is that something is wrong either with my chip or the hard drive since everyone else with my combo ISN'T having problems.  I'd rather isolate the problem first before adding new apps since I'm certain that dvd2xbox is able to rip those games.

It could also be your DVD drive, or IDE cable.

I'll swap them out in the morning but I kind of looked past that since neither of those would cause the F: partition to lock up without causing problems with anything else.  Hopefully it works....I'm itching to get this thing running right.

Hey I had the same problem and it is the way the chip formats the new drive. I switched out HD's and everything for nothing. To fix the issue I deleted the stuff in my e->cache folder. Just ftp into it and delete the files in the cache folder and then it will play new live games like Burnout and Star wars. FYI I had to recover my x-box account by sending my username and credit card info.

Hope this helps sad.gif

I already tried deleting the cache.  The live enabled games played fine afterward but some of them are still freezing during the loading process and locking the F: drive once they're loaded.  Look at my first post for the exact description of what's going on...it's different than the hard drive formatting problem with the Beta bios.
