Xenium Ice 1.4, Chip Not Firing Up.
« on: October 02, 2004, 08:51:00 PM »

Hey all, just chipped a 1.4 and basically when I boot up the xbox it just goes right to MS Dash.

Using D0 Loom, grounded fine, D0 is great.  It's nice and secure, clean solder.

Pinheader soldered in great, checked continuity all fine.  No dark solder, no clumps..very clean install.

Brand new Xbox, brand new chip.  Any ideas where to go?

Ensure your chip is on the header the correct way...  Also, does the chip's LED light up at all?

First, try booting to the Xenium OS.  Use the CD-Rom eject button on your Xbox to do this.  If you are able to get to the Xenium OS, then you'll know that the chip is installed correctly.  Assuming it is installed correctly, you'll then need to flash the chip with a new bios.  (I do believe it is also a good idea to flash at least one bank with the original bios).  Then you'll need to install EvoX or another dash if that is indeed what you are trying to do.  If you are new to the scene it may be easiest if you use an installer like Slayers to assist you.  Slayer's Installer and the bios files you need can be found at "the usual places".  Check the tuts on X-S if you need further assistance.

No LED at all.  I'll reground the D0 loom, hopefully that is it.  I would have expected a frag if my solder wasn't good, so I assumed it was the D0 wire but it's in the D0 sweet!  Very tight and clean.

I'll redo the ground and see what happens.  Thanks for the info.

You *sure* your chip is on the header the right way? The X in Xenium should be facing the back of the box... You sure you soldered the header in the correct place? If the chip was getting power, regardless of d0, it would be lighting up red. and the ground wire on the loom is redundant anyways, it's not needed for the chip to function, so that's not likely it.(There's a ground on LPC).

I have had a few frag on me, but this is the first chip to not power up at all.

I tried to ground the loom all over again and if that doesn't work I'll go on the theory that it's a 1.5 that has continuity between number 2 LPC hole and ground.

Thanks for the link, I had Cap269's guide but my PC took a crap today and I had to do a restore.  I haven't loaded all my backups back on the PC yet.

BTW, out of curiosity..have you guys had any 1.6's with absolutely no power after modding?  I am curious to how many of those are actually happening.  I just ordered some 2A resistors as I have a feeling the more 1.6's that get out there the more are going to be having that problem.

So much for the ol' continuity at #2LPC hole and ground test...HA.

Damn man...  Does anyone else know of any other ways to tell the two apart?

Thanks, BTW!

I have continuity between the number 2 LPC and ground, so I am going on the premise that it's a 1.4.

No, I had continuity..so I was assuming that I had a 1.4 as I stated earlier.

I have went by that standard ever since I read cap's guide back in late July early August. I believe the last revision was around August 13th?   Unless I was reading wrong, I thought that if you had continuity between the number 2 LPC and ground then you had a 1.4, no continiuty meant 1.5.

well, at least one more time...later all  smile.gif
