Look At My Plan To A Succesful Install And Comment
« on: September 21, 2004, 12:51:00 PM »

All right, here is my plan to mod my xbox (Version 1.0/1.1)..  Feel free to comment.

Step 1) Open up Xbox and install Xenium Ice Solderless adapter
Step 2) After installed, turn on xbox (while it is open?) and see if it was installed correctly.
Step 3) Install "Retail Kernel"
Step 4) Install Additional Bios (What do you reccomend for version 1.0/1.1?)
Step 5) Back up EEPROM
Step 6) Now, install my hard drive
Step 7) Run hard drive update wizard and close xbox
Step 8) FTP into my xbox (using FlashFXP) and put drag evolution x on.
Step 9) Install DVD2XBOX, Xbox media center, etc (how do I do this? are there any guides)

So what do you all think?  Please give me as much feedback as possible, and answer my questions.  I'm going for it sometime this week.  All your post will be greatly appreaciated.  I don't care if you call me a name, as long as it is helpful. THANKS!

It's version 1.0/1.1.  So what about BIOS, and installing Dvd2xbox, etc?  Anyone have suggestions/guides?

On the xenium ICE guide, it says nothing about a boot disk for evolution x.  Are you sure that is right?

Appleguru means FTP server wink.gif

Anywho, your steps look more or less right, just remember that you need to have the dvd and hd plugged in when you test the xbox to see if it all worked wink.gif

Don't forget to check the clock when you boot into retail kernel the first time.

To install your apps and stuff you set up the evox or avalaunch ftp servers, then use an ftp client

avalaunch is a great dashboard (i really believe its better than evox)

for the bios you should use X2 4981.06 or X2 4983.06 (If you have a drive larger than 250GB then use .67)

after you install evox or avalaunch and get ftp working, backup your c and e drives to your pc.

Also, install config magic and make another eeprom backup to your HD and then ftp the backup files to your pc.

Thank you, good to know.  Didn't know that  wink.gif

Well, lets just say I wanna put on DVD2XBOX.  Which files would I copy?  What files would I copy if I wanted to install XBMC?

It probobly is... but you know, evolution x is the easiest to install I heard.

I am either installing a 160 GB/200 GB HD.  What Additional BIOS should I install to be able to read the full HD?  Will the BIOS be xbox live capable?

Do I just use FlashFXP and take the C: and E: from my xbox and copy it into a folder in my C: on the computer?

In Xenium ice though, isnt there an option that you can click to "Backup EEPROM?"

After you install your chip and want to see if it works wink.gif

Make a folder called "apps" on E: or F: and in there make a dvd2xbox folder. All of DVD2XBOX's files go in there (Like, the default.xbe).

Same for XBMC.

Heh, they're all the exact same difficulty (IE, really easy) to install.

Use X2 4981 or 4983. No hacked BIOSEs are LIVE compatible, for LIVE you need a retail game and to boot to the retail BIOS (TSOP). The Xenium's Launch Menu lets you do this. (X2 does have LIVE Blocking though, which is good, helps keep you from getting banned).

That's one way, but do it using your dashes FTP server and not XOS2s. XOS2's FTP server is not meant for this kind of 'heavy lifting' tongue.gif

There is, but if your eeprom ever got fried, you don't want to rely on the chip. If you flash your OS, for example, the eeprom backup you had on the chip goes bye bye. Believe me, you want a backup on your PC.

Heh... A few questions.... riiiight tongue.gif

No. The eeprom is a code on a chip in your xbox that is unique. It is required to lock/unlock the HDD, and serves many other great functions tongue.gif

So if the EEPROM backups the EEPROM, and HDD driver backs up the hard drive, is that good?

Oh and how do I get the EEPROM backup to my computer?
