First Mod - Won't Boot

QUOTE (MitHriDate @ Sep 20 2004, 08:08 PM)
Ok, I installed an Xenium Ice in a 1.6 yesterday afternoon.  I got the wonderful Green and Red flashing LED on the Xbox when I hit the power button.

I took the motherboard back out and checked all the solder connections with a multimeter.  I also checked all the traces around where the solder points were to see if anything was messed up.  Everything on the backside of the board was fine.

The problem I found is where I connected the D0 point.  I used the one on top side that is the lower of the two.  There are two points to the bottom left corner of the chip there (X something, i'm at work now can't check).  The two points are no longer showing continuity.

My question is this.  Can I simply use the point on the underside of the board to connect to the Xenium chip and not repair the trace there, or must I repair the trace for it to boot?  I'm guessing that because I got the red and green error, it is because the trace between the two points on the topside is broken.  Therefore the signal is not making it to the point that I used.  If i use the point on the bottom, there should not be a problem right?

Thanks for any help.  Sorry if the question is not worded very well...this is my first mod.

Mike

Sounds likely, but there are a myriad reason why an XBox will FRAG, one is simply that the dvd and hd drives are not connected.

I always use the bottom lframe its a lot easier to solder to.  You should be able to disconnect it from the top and run a wire from the bottom lframe to the pad on the chip (No need for the loom).

If you remove the modchip does the XBox still not boot?  If you can't boot without the modchip you've probably done some damage to the motherboard that will, most likely, need repair.

He means take it off the pinheader.

If it still does FRAG, try running a wire from the bottom LFRAME to the top as well as to the chip...

It worked!!!!  What a relief.

Ok, so it works with no chip.  I am going to try routing D0 from the bottom of the board tonight.  If that does not make it start chugging does anyone have any suggestions for the next step?  When I had the chip plugged in, the LED was red while the xbox was FRAG.

Thanks again everyone.

Solder to the bottom lframe and then test for continuity on the other points on the top (there are 2).
