Retail Kernel Won't Launch

It sounds like your d0 is wired up directly to Ground, instead of to the appropriate d0 point on the chip.  What install method did you use?

Thank you very much Artifex.  I actually realized that I used the wrong cable (blue) instead of the black one. (from the instructions that I was following).

However, my problem has not solved itself, I have setup a bios and dashboard and everything else.  I run the MS dash from EvoX (to set the time).

More detail:  my problem is setting up the Retail Kernel in Xenium OS Launch Menu, i am able to setup any bios, but when I choose to setup from the TSOP it will install, but when I restart the xbox it just boots back to Xenium OS.

I used the pinheader install.

I've had the same problem, and i'm still not sure just what is going on. My xbox is a v1.0 with a pinheader install, and the wire is connected from the d0 pad on the chip to the d0 point at the bottom of the mobo.

Flashing from TSOP is successful, however, when I try to boot up retail, it just turns off and then goes back to xenium os. As an experiment, I flashed the retail bios to the chip via FTP, and then booted up and -viola- it worked. But, unfortunately, the retail bios required to run my box is 1MB , which is the whole flash space.

So, has something been messed up in my mobo? Apparently xboxdash.xbe still works....

No retail firmware are 1mb.  They may be 256k, and mirrored 4 times to be a 1mb file.

my setup and version is exactly the same as yours pdigity, however, the black wire is what i soldered onto the d0 on the top of the motherboard and I just clipped the blue one.  (don't know what the difference is, i tried it the way you had it before and it worked the same).

I may just have to do what golightning has done and split the ms bios that i have.

thanks guys for all the help.

Well, the blue wire is the d0 wire and the black wire is the ground wire.

I'm guessing if you soldered the blackwire to the d0 then you actually just hardwired the d0 to ground, hence the TSOP option in the Xenium won't work.

oops... you screwed up wink.gif

To fix it, wire up the d0 pad to the d0 point.

yup, your install is wrong. get the black wire off d0. I soldered some 30awg kynar from the d0 on the bottom of the board, to the d0 quick solder on the ICE.
