How Many Bios?
« on: September 09, 2004, 05:43:00 PM »

i have the tsop, and a 4983 flash.  how many other bios will the chip hold?  i know i really only use one, but as i cant change any of the flubber stuff with 4983 from what i've been told, i'd like to toy with maybe 4981 or whichever is supported that i can.  basically, i'm looking to start digging a little deeper into what i can do with my box, other than avalaunch, xbmc, and backups.

my understanding is you flashed the bios to the chip from the harddrive, so after that, it loads the bios from the chip.  after reading some stuff from team xodus, i thought loading a bios from the hdd (that you can see the os is setup to do when adding launch items) was a "future" feature.  anybody else know for sure?

From memory you have 1MB of space for the bios's.

You can use any combination of bios's, or just have a single bios on the chip.

As far as i understand it.....you have to phisically download the retail kernel and flash it to the chip for the retail bios to occupy space on the chip, otherwise i think the chip just uses the retail bios on the XBox Main Board when "Launch Retail Kernel" is selected.

Yep the tsop option is just a pointer to the onboard bios.  Actually its just a "note" if you will to tell the chip to turn off when selected.

The good news though, is that the final release of XOS 2.0 will be out straight after current tests are complete with fixes and improvements on our initial beta version, such as the implementation of Quick Boot, date/time bug fix and (hopefully if we can get it stable enough), a small surprise! Due to popular opinion, the backdrop has also been changed to a more sedate scheme.

...leading me to believe that the small suprise is the bios loading from hdd.  i could be wrong though.  after all, i'm only 1 month old (as a newb that is).

thanks again.

Skinning the OS I think

Flubber stuff can be handled perfectly well using the IND-BIOS
