I Messed Things Up Bad
« on: September 05, 2004, 05:02:00 PM »

Personally, i would try the pin header, I'm not a big fan of quicksolder. Of course youll have to remove the solder in the holes. Or check and see if your LPC is level. My LPC point #2 is lower than the rest, i had to make some custom mods to the adapter for it to work.
But i'd say if the chip lights up it should still be good. And does your xbox still boot with out the chip?

O and one other thing i forgot, sometimes the xenium wont sit right on the solderless adapter. There for it wont read and youll frag. I had to get the Blue and Black wire thing and stretched it to another hole to get the xenium stuck in place. Now i can drop my xbox 6 ft onto my bed and the chip stays in place.

It's ironic that I am in the same exact situation as you are.  The solderless adapter kept coming off everytime I put the box together.  I have to do this so many times that I ended up stripping the hole where the screw from the solderless adapter screws in.

To make the story short, now the xbox just reboots 3 times and FRAG (the red led on the xenium chip is on).  If i pull hte chip out, it will go to the "your xbox need repair" message.  I am guessing that the repair message comes up becuase of my hard drive being unlocked?  If so, is there a way to lock the HD so that I can use the Xbox in the normal unmodded way?

If the chip is bad, is there a way to reflash the chip or reprogram the chip?

If you remove the adapter also, will it boot as normal?  My guess is yes unless you damaged the mobo with the adapter.  Take the adapter clean off and boot it that way.  If it boots, you can still solder it in and fix it, if it doesnt boot, you broke a trace somewhere and the xbox is dead until you find someone to fix it.

doesnt do much else , i "played with the eject button" and  the xbox Beeped  three times again " i thought xboxes didnt do this beeping " huh.gif

in the end NOTHING happens , chip is removed , still nothing ,
the thing is it worked fine at first , then messed up all by itself , ill check tomorrow
for broken traces, ill post then,,   gota sleep , for work  grr.gif

could the chip initially have  messed up the xbox's normal  bios , or something ?

Nope, definitely sounds like you damaged something with that adapter.  Look around pin number 4 on the lpc and around the nearby points and traces for cuts or pieces of copper sticking out.

I have a kinda simialar situation... I installed ICE (solderless) it kept comming off, so I quick soldered it in that worked all fine except now the box will not recognize retail REAL xbox cd's.  I tried to take the chip off (carefully heating and prying the solder because I am to cheap to get a sucker or braid).  I got the chip off, box works great still, except it won't play games!! It WILL play an Audio CD fine... It TRY's to play DVD's.  So, I put the chip back in this time using the pin headers like I should have done in the first place.  It will now still only play audio cd's and with the EVOX dash app from slayer's (I don't remember the name) it will play DVD's.  I have checked over and over again for bad solder and ruined traces and solder splashes... everything...
The only thing I can think of is 1. I ruined the MoBo so bad that I can't fix it and would be better to buy a new box.  2. Somehow the DVD rom has gone bad. 3. The TSOP needs to be flashed.
Please let me know what you think. ANY help is much appreciated.

Have you upgraded the HD with the Xenium OS wizard yet?

If so, then read the link in my sig

I tried something today... I switch the (Thompson) drive from my other (vigin) xbox to this one.  and it WORKED.  Somehow installing the ICE I made it so Samsung drive won't play games.. but will play everything else.  Now, all I have to do is get a new DVD rom for the box with the chip.
