Cannot Launch Retail Kernel
« on: August 29, 2004, 06:53:00 AM »

I have XOS2b2, x2_4983.06 bios, X2_4974 (old before hd upgrade),  evox dash 3935, 200mb HD. Hard drive is locked and time, date is set correctly in M$ dash. BUT...
When I access XOS2b2 and try to launch Retail Kernel all I get is a blank screen and the eject button is blinking green. I don't get error codes. If i try to launch from either my X2_4974 (OLD) or X2_4983.06 (NEW) bios I get to the EVOX dash (3935) and then I can launch the M$ dash (this is how I know the time, date, etc.).
It's weird that I can launch the M$ dash from within evox dash but not from XOS2b2. Is there a bug?

Also, I have tried the restore eeprom from the eeprom tools in XOS2b2 and tried unlocking and locking the hard drive. I could launch the Retail Kernal but that only worked once. Tried the same steps and back to square one...cannot launch retail kernel (TSOP).

Please help as I cannot use live until I get this resolved.

Thanks in advance.

From evox, you're just launching the dashboard. You are not launching the bios.

My M$Dash file name is "xboxdash.xbe". Before I upgraded the hard drive to 200GB I had a 40GB in there and I backed up C: and E: to my pc via FTP. I tried putting in the "old" 40GB drive and the exact same thing happens.

Does anyone have any other ideas?

Thanks

This happened to me, you must have a 1.6 and you used slayers to prep it.  You need to copy the dash from the old hd to the new one, it needs the newest version to run.  Either that or load up an xbox live game and update it from there.

I have evox dash 3539 and I only used slayer just to format the 200gb hard drive. Drive C: and E: were ftp'd from the old 40 gb. But now even the 40gb has the same problem. When I launch the retail kernel I get a blank screen and the eject button LED just keeps flashing green.

BTW, what do you mean load a xbox live game and let update it from there? I can only access the M$ DAsh from EVOX launch menu. I don't want to access live when my Xenium is active and I have booted from the X2_4883.06 bios.

Any suggestions?

Unplug the netwrok cable, put an xbox live original game in the drive, turn the xbox off, switch back to the retail kernel, let it boot off the disc, go to xbox live option in the game, let it update, try restarting.

OK, i will try that. Hopefully it will work. BTW, does it matter that i don't have a live account yet? I was planning on getting one soon...i just didn't want to get band from MS.

Thanks for you help.

Nah it wont matter because the game will compare the dash on your drive to the one it has on itself and if the one on the disc is newer it will copy it over.

It isnt an option, just go to an xbox live game and go into multiplayer, xbox live, and it will update it.

Don't forget to unplug your netowrk cable tho! Or you will get banned.
