Blue/black Lframe Wires?
« on: August 16, 2004, 07:04:00 AM »

I know that the blue/black wires are supposed to be connected to the lframe(d0) on a v1.6 xbox then connected to the chip.  My question is do you have to connect the black wire to a ground for the version 1.6 xbox while whe blue wire goes to the d0 point?

Also the black wire ring that supposed to put under a screw to i need to use that ground as well, as i heard it was optional and just could be taped up?

i think the regular blue xenium chip HAS to be grounded for v1.6, but if you got a ice you don't need it. someone correct me if I am wrong.

thats what i thought i read, but is that for both grounds? 1 being the d0 ground wire, and 2 being the ground ring?

blue goes to the d0 point and ground the black to one of the dcrew hole rings. but since you got a ice you don't need to ground it. just use blue.

ok.  so the d0 doesn't need to be grounded.  How about the ground wire on the plug that connects to the leds i believe (ring).  Should that be grounded as well?

No, for my ICE when I did not solder the black wire to a srew hole on my 1.6, no power to the chip. You need to ground it. The little ring for the Xternal LED sits on top of a screw hole then you screw the screw in

I think if you use that little wire dongle with the blue and black wires you have to use the black wire to ground.  However, I did a 1.6 and soldered the wire from the bottom lframe to the d0 pad on the top of the chip and didn't need to ground it.  So, I think its safe to say if you use the wire loom it comes with then you need to ground it, and if you solder the wire to the chip you don't need it.  As far as the led ground ring, you don't really need it, I didn't use it.

I think the ring is only really necessary if you have multiple XLEDs. I think the worry is that the single ground point on the LPC bus might not be able to handle the load... so the extra ground point is in case you hook up 5 XLEDs or something smile.gif

I grounded it anyway smile.gif

If you don't install the ring, be sure to wrap it with electrical tape so you don't short out the board!

thanks all!

As far as the D0 on the chip, did you guys solder it to the D0 solder PAD on the chip? that seems like the place everyone is talking about.

Yes, unless you used the removeable D0 Wire

Add a launch item from the TSOP and select it.

BTW, I used the blue/black detatchable loom for my d0/ground. I *did* solder ground and I did screw the black ring from the accessory loom under the nearest screw hole. There's really no reason not to...
