D0 Trace Ripped Off The Board And I Was Like Wha?!
« on: August 05, 2004, 08:27:00 PM »

Lame ass question guys.  I've done 4 xbox's this last one i fucked up royally by tearing the top side d0 point.  I was being a little too rough with the boom off the solderless xenium piece and i ripped out the ring for the topside d0.  then i fiddled with it some more and the ring fell off.

needless to say this sucks.  i'm guessing i'm completely screwed, BUT, i'm hoping someone made a dumb mistake like this and was able to fix it.

i found this (replace www.www.cnn.com with www.[xbox].net remove [] and add - between each letter in xbox, seems xbox-scene doesn't like them much): www.www.CNN.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=3645&forum=7

here's what i found interesting about this, that you could use a tracer pen.

but more importantly:

1- if i take the d0 from the underside and attach it to the top point WHERE THE broken d0 leads, NOT where it broke, the other side of where it broke (near the nvidia mcp chip), do you think this would work?

2- why would the xbox FRAG with all the mod stuff removed?

any input would be much apreciated, guys i really need it, if the answer is i'm screwed, well then i am.  i apreciate the effort anyway.

cheers guys!

Solder a 30gage wire to the wire on solderless adaptor that would connect to D0, than solder it to the bottom d0 location.

Good luck. muhaha.gif

how could you have been that rough seriusly to tear out the top d0 ? What were ya doing that needed that much force. Do what previous post said and you should be ok.

Or better yet, while you got the iron warmed up, toss the adapter and solder in the pin header.  Pin headers are incredably easy to solder, even easier than the bottom d0 pad.

Hey all, thanks for helping.

bishop05 - I used the small blue wire that comes with the Xenium ICE to solder from the Xenium d0 pad to the underside d0, but the same thing happens.  plus the box frags WITHOUT anything "foreign" in it.

silentsnake - yeah i know, really big no no, i didn't have all the tools i needed.  this particular xbox was fine the night before, but yesterday i tried to turn it on and there was no video, so i thought maybe something came loose.  i opened it up and asssumed the d0 boom was loose.  i took pliers not tweezers and tried pushing the d0 in further ( i found that it had to be pushed in harder at times depending on the box) problem was my hand slipped, the boom bent and ripped the ring out with it. tongue.gif  Needless to say, dumb, really dumb.

acemilo - thanks but i would still have to do the d0.

so guys, to be clear, with nothing in the box, nothing foreign, back to a stock version, it won't boot, it just frags with no video.  any ideas about that?

apreciate all your help.

You do have the HD and DVD drive connected and powered up right?

gumba - good question, forgot to include that very important info.

1- with all foreign mod items out of xbox and ALL proper xbox hardware including the HD and DVD etc... it FRAG's.

2- with d0 soldered from bottom point to xenium chip directly, and all proper hardware installed, still FRAG's, BUT, this was when i was using REALLY old solder from an old video card (didn't have the tools i needed)

i then called in re-enforcements and they brought some flux and good solder, tried again, still FRAG's, BUT i had NOT hooked the HD and DVD back up that time.

Do you believe a box FRAG's without the HD and DVD?

Thanks.

Hey bishop,

So why do you think so though?  Does the d0 have a direct relationship with the eeprom?  i only ask now because i might as well learn something out of all this.  i know the d0 is used to bypass the "system", so is that referring to the eeprom?

also, is the eeprom removeable?  i know most aren't, but i figure i'll ask anyway.

cheers.

I'm not sure if its a frag, but XBox's don't work without the HD and DVD plugged in wink.gif

I remember wondering why my xbox was ... i think it was fragging... but it was a while ago... when I first installed a Xenium blue...

Then I realised maybe it'd be a good idea to plug the dvd and hd back in...

and then boom... it worked smile.gif

that sounds risky because if you miss the trace for whatever reason then you are screwed, no way to remove that glue.  I believe there was a D0 fix tutorial posted around here at one point, scan the forum back a few or check the tutorials section of xbox scene.

What's risky about, it's not glue, and as long as you're careful it involves using the tip of a safety pin and dabbing in several "layers" of the paint...as long as the traces around the d0 aren't exposed you can be as sloppy ass need be...just don't be stupid about it.
