Xenium Solder Less Help..
« on: July 30, 2004, 02:08:00 PM »

i used 30awg kynar wire from radio shack for my d0. I did the pin header on my 1.0. Much more secure connection. buy a fine tip soldering iron off ebay, or you could probably get away with a 15 watt iron from radio shack as well.

First throw out the solderless adapter, its garbage.  Next, take the pin header and take out the number 4 pin.  Next tape the pin header in place to hold it while you solder.  Turn it upside down and touch the iron to the first pin and the hole at the same time.  Touch the joint with solder until it flows freely.  Remove the solder then the iron.  Do that for all the pins.  Locate the bottom d0 point (much easier than top).  Get some solder on your iron and make sure the wire is tinned with solder.  Put the wire on the point and touch the wire and the point with the solder on the iron.  Remove the iron, make sure the wire is snug.  Solder the black wire to the grounding screw hole pad.  Connect and boot.  Done.

Why you askin us what version you have?  If you have a Xyclops video chip, then you have a 1.6.  If you have a 1.6, you must follow the 1.6 guides and rebuild the lpc by soldering a few extra wires (even if you wanna use the solderless adapter you MUST solder the lpc).  As far as the drive, theres no way to tell what media your drive will read.  Try em all and see what works.

rrokdoka ,

--- Yes you have to solder the lpc points on the 1.6 [ do not use the Solderless adapter , use the pin-header ] . If you can rebuild the LPC then you can easily do the Pin-Header . There are great instructions that can be linked right from Xbox-scene .
--- The Samsung dvd rom drive is the best of the xbox drives [ just take a look when you open the case ] . The Thomson seems to like DVD-R while the Philips likes DVD+R [ but they will both read each format from my experience as long as the discs are burned properly ] .

Also, does it matter how much tin or lead is in the solder material?

when you tin you just need a very little solder on the wire, just enough so it will be visable.

Ok im very confused....

was i supposed to do anything other then just solder the wires in and plug the chip in because what am i supposed to do with bios and all that other stuff or is it preflashed and such and is it just supposed to load the normal x box screen and just put in a game and play??? Cause i have yet to try DVD+R, and DVD-R i have only tried CD-R and CD-RWs....

Cd-r only works on samsungs.  You have to flash the chip with a bios, otherwise it is probably gonna boot straight off the tsop.
