I tried formatting with the 'raw command', don't efel very confident i did it right. It gave me this message my second try:

Formatpath \Device\Harddisk0\Partition1
500 Syntax error, command unrecognized or malformed

I don't have the first clue what to give for raw commands, i just kind of guessed at what it said. I still don't understand the reason for using evolution x for anything..

if someone could tell me exactly what to give for raw commands, it would be excellent, and also, am i supposed to have the E drive on my Xbox highlighted for the raw commands? Or am i supposed to highlight the backup of the E drive on my computer and give that raw commands?

You must give this raw command to the ftp server built into evox, not to the one in XBMC or Ava or the Xenium (etc)

If you still get a problem, ensure that you're running a modern version of evox (say... the latest)

I've been seeing a lot of people on various forums who not only have the freezing problems loading XBL games but a related problem where their dashboard errors out with an error 13 (I'm guessing if it tries to auto-load XBL)

Apparently this fix fixes both issues, but can anyone definitively confirm this?

wow, i'll go through and format everything with unleashx i guess, now that i know where to find the password.

but for the record, i've put 17 games on my maxtor 160, many of them live enabled, and for me, copying the games with unleash x after the new harddrive installation seems to work as well. i haven't had problems yet. but i'll format 'for good measure'.

I'm using UnleashX as my dashboard and came across the same issues in this thread (games freezing right after the opening credits which appear to be the result of a bug with OS2's drive upgrade feature).  Nobody mentioned anything about how to format the E: drive using UnleashX.  Its WAY simpler than anything documented in this thread.

Wow, that is simpler, glad it works smile.gif

I'll test this later an put it in the next revision of this guide (if the bug isn't fixed by then)

To fix it you need to reformat your E partition with the EvolutionX dashboard's built in formatter, which is accessed via FTP, but you will not need to format your C, F or G drives. Not having to format C is a lot safer as you do not have to wipe your Xboxes operating system, not formatting F or G (if it exists) will save you LOTS of time (days) and frustration if you actually have anything on F or G smile.gif.

Guide

1) ftp the contents of your E drive to a separate folder on your PC, If you have HUGE folders on your E drive (e/apps and e/roms perhaps?) then you may just want to move them to F first? might be faster than FTPing them.
1.5) if you have avalaunch, install evox (remember to configure the IP address) on your c drive and rename avalaunch.xbe (avalaunch-.xbe will do) (assuming X2 bios)
2) reboot xbox, connect via ftp to evox
3) Format partition 1 (E drive) using raw FTP commands via your FTP client ie

how the hell do you do this?  maybe i've read this wrong but does this mean that you have to use the ftp client to format your e drive?

i've never been able to do this with flashfxp

sorry for being such a noob.  i would like help formating the e drive

thanks

Well, I havne't used FlashFXP in a long time, so I can't tell you exactly how to do it, but yes, you use your ftp client to tell evox to format the HD.

The way you do this is to connect to your xbox, while evox is running, and then send a raw command to the xbox, the "FormatPartition" command.

So, you need to find out how to send raw commands with FlashFXP (read the manual, ask them, ask someone else... etc)

anyone knows of guides or tutorials that show how to do this?  what ftp program did you use to format the e drive while evoX is on?

I used a program called Fetch... it runs on OSX wink.gif

but the FTP client makes no difference to the actual format, it just allows you to send the commands.

ok so let me get this straight,  and tell me if this is the way to do it

1. do the disc thing with xenium os2
2. fix the evoX dash file with the command to format e partion
3. transfer it with your ftp protocol

is that the way to do it?

3) format e drive with the command via ftp client
4) restore e drive to xbox from pc with ftp client

If you don't do the backup/restore bit you will lose all your saves

There has been an update to XOS2, XOS2beta2.

You should all upgrade to that.

I'm not sure how this affects the Xbox Live Formatter bug, its supposed to fix it... but I have a feeling that's just for future upgrades.

If you upgraded your HD with XOS2beta1 or XOS2Pre-release, you will probably still have the bug :-\

If you *do* have the bug, can you try upgrading to XOS2beta2, then using the format option in XOS2 to format your e drive rather than evox?

Thanks.

Thx Gumba !

[Edit]  sad.gif  Ok, so I THOUGHT this would work, since it seems to work for everyone else, but unfortunately for me, it doesn't. I have tried both formatting via EvoX/FTP & via UnleashX, but XBL games still hang. Short of sniping the next living thing I see, is there ANYTHING else I can try ???

(Even though this doesn't work for me, still, great work and thanks again )

You can try

1) setting your time
2) deleting the e:\cache directory
3) formatting the x,y,z partitions

The ICE is a great chip; buy it. Upgrade to OS 2 beta2 before performing an HDD upgrade, and you wont need to worry about this bug at all.
