IIRC (And this is from memory only), blue xeniums *CAN* be blindly updated to XOS2... Just remember that it isn't XOS2 PR, and until a new 'beta' is released you'll need to solder D0 on the chip to ground.

Follow the ozxodus 1.6 ice install guide

(I believe you solder the lframe wire to the d0 point on the ice chip)

Have you found any info on this at all appleguru? Seems like most people are getting Xenium ICE's now, but for all us classic Xenium owners it sure would be nice to figure out a way to do a blind update.

All info I've gathered since I said that has shown that nobody has actually had any success flashing a chip with XOS 1.1 on a 1.6.

Yah, you'll have to use a < 1.6 xbox to do the update

(Like your system with the CheapMod wink.gif)

Blue Xeniums can NOT be blindly upgraded. When you put the chip in and turn the XBOX on, it FRAGs. Take the chip out and it boots. Put it back in and it FRAGs. Put an ICE in and it boots. Because the blue Xenium does not have the appropriate interface to the video, it causes the XBOX to FRAG.  Blue Xeniums can only be updated on a pre-1.6 console for use in a 1.6.

As for the LFRAME grounding issue, there is a logic change that took place in the ICE's CPLD that is why the LFRAME does not need grounding with the ICE and does need it without the ICE.  It doesn't really matter, though, because once the Blue chip is running, just flash Kernel 5838 to a Xenium bios bank (instead of accessing the TSOP bios) and you can still boot up as a stock XBOX.

EDIT: corrected a typo...

But could a Blue Xenium with XOS2beta be updated to a newer version of XOS2 on a 1.6?

Well, OS2beta has Xcalibur support, so it wouldn't necessarily be a blind update unless you're too lazy to turn the TV on  tongue.gif

I was wondering about the recovery mode. I'm assuming recovery mode is like a minimal version of XOS (which could be a bad assumption)

Does it get updated when you update the OS?

If it didn't it could have a problem where the recovery mode couldn't drive the video chip smile.gif

I'll try it on my next 1.6 mod job and let you know. My own XBOXs are 1.0, 1.1, and 1.4 so I can't try it right now.

we already saw your 2 cents and it has nothing to do with blindly updating a fragging chip. which will never happen.

Ya but like every fraggin flammer, everyone needs to up that lowley n00b status from "enthusiast" to "non-n00b" label. :-D
