right i am just gessing but i have been reading reviews and tutorials for the past week because i am thinking of buying an ice. there is a recovery switch on the chip try switching the button to the on position (i think this is when the red line is showing under neath it now get your self a fresh copy of the os from the web site and burn it to cd there are guides on how to do this on the site put it in your xbox and let it do its work it can hurt all this does is update your os on the chip sounds like yours is damaged IF you do this remmembere there are 3 os versions at the moment 1.0/1.1/ and 2.0 try the 1.1 first because the 2.0 is still a beta and you cant back flash yet so in simple terms use the earlier 1 first because if you use the new 1 it wont come off cause there aint a newer 1 you can only replace with the same os (but dont quote me on the last bit about replacing) good luck on your journys
