Tsop Wont Boot...
« on: July 13, 2004, 09:43:00 AM »

I recently got an ICE and installed via PinHeader.  Everything seems to be working fine.  All the EEprom tools work, Xecutor flashed and boots fine, but when i try to boot my TSOP the xbox seems to just restart and return to the OS screen.  When I added the TSOP to my launch list it adds with no problems, its only when I try to boot with it.  The only thing I can link it to would be that I am using the Removeable D0 incorrectly?  I used the removeable D0 by just soldering the black wire onto the D0 and wrapped the end of the blue wire in electrical tape so it doesnt accidently contact anything else.  Is this incorrect? does that blue wire need to solder somewhere else?  I dont know if this would have anything todo with booting TSOP tho as when I unplug the chip from the TSOP it boots perfectly, also the Xecutor 4981 bios works perfectly as well.  Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks

P.S - A temporary fix I have was to download the retail bios and just flash it to the chip, but i would really like to boot my TSOP as this is a waste of flash space and im picky like that hehe.

A bit strange problem you got there I have to admit.

Try reheating/resoldering LPC points and maybe the d0 point also.

wow thanks for the great response.  I'm not sure I understand everything correctly from you guys so here goes.

It was my understanding tha D0 was a ground connection.  My Xenium came with a detacheable D0 plug that had 2 wires connected to the plug.  One black thicker one and one thinner blue one.  Initially I just soldered the blue wire to the D0 but the Xenium would not boot.  Then I tried just soldering the Black (thicker) wire to the D0 and everything booted fine.  This of course leaves the blue wire free and not soldered to anything.  Are these 2 wires supposed to actually each connect to something?  I could not find anything in any of the Xenium PDF's that ever mentioned this detacheable D0 so really I am not sure fully if it is used properly.

As of right now with the latter setup that I mentioned (with just the black wire soldered to the D0 point), the chip works perfectly with all flashed BIOS's.  I always figured that when booting the TSOP the chip would basically just disable itself (to an extent) and let the xbox do the rest.  I know my TSOP is working perfectly because I can remove the chip from the Pin header and unplug the detacheable D0 and the xbox boots normally.

Master-Chief - I'm not quite sure what you mean by saying the D0 is grounded to the motherboard, also what do you mean by cross contamination of the wires?

Marksu - Is the black wire supposed to go somewhere else and the blue wire to the D0? If so how come the chip still works with flashed bios?

Thanks again for all the help.

To clarify it use of the d0 wire is following.

When selecting on Xenium menu the MS Original Bios, Xenium sends a signal through the d0 (blue wire), to tell the motherboard to load the Original Bios. When Xenium is not sending any signal through d0 wire motherboard starts the bios on the Xenium chip.

It as you did not have the d0 wire connected to the motherboard, motherboard never got the signal to know that MS Original Bios should be started.
