how do you 'ftp' the files? If you can't tell, clueless to this stuff but i have one on the way. might be a dangerous combination

get the chip working. hook up the xbox on the network (this will vary with what you use, there are tuts)in the OS2 set the network settings.  Use an FTP client on your computer and connect to the xbox.  Transfer files...  try google on how FTP works if you've never FTP'd to anything before..

i need to know, is how do i know my mod is succesfull, when i dont have any bios flashed? The system should boot normally when i set the external device on my xecuter to "off" on the switch, right?

yes that is correct, and I'm not totally sure, but cromwell will probably load with the modchip on/enabled, but you won't see anything on the screen.  the DVD drive would eject.  This is if the chip is new and came pre-flashed with cromwell.

Does somebody have or know of a guide with indepth text and pictures to guide someone along the installation of a Xenium ice with the M8 bios and EvolutionX dashboard on a 1.6v mobo.Im a noob to this kinda stuff and would appreciate any kind of help.

to install the chip, follow OzXodus's 1.6 install guide to rebuild the LPC and know where D0/LFRAME is located.  Look at the regular install guide to see how the pin header is actually put in the board and how the chip is orientated.  Then check out their OS2 Manual to see how to operate the chip once installed.  If you want to install evox afterward, use the tuts already available on the site.  instead of using a boot disc with an FTP server on it, just fire up the chip as OS2 has a built in FTP server.

** I am by no means an expert, but I have modded quite a few xboxs... so what I'm saying is don't hold me responsible...  smile.gif **

After reading the Xenium 1.6 instruction manual supplied by Ozxodus, I realized that it doesnt show a picture as where to place the Xenium Ice chip on the motherboard.I'm a noob to this kinda stuff so will someone point it out. Please

The Xenium mounts atop the pinheader. The black 12-hole plug on the component side of the chip mates with the pinheader. The other side of the chip then becomes the top.

When mounting the Xenium (ICE or blue) on the pinheader (or solderless adaptor) the X in the word Xenium silkscreened on the chip should be toward the back of the case.

This thread definately should be tagged. I have been really hesitant to modify my newly purchased Xbox, but I went and did it tonight. The guide provided in this thread + the PDF guide is the definitive guide to modifying with the Xenium ICE chip I purchased. I had a bitch of time sodering, but considering the soderless kit from the guys who make the chip is useless, this guide  was provided was the ONLY place, I could find that really did do it right - meaning right pin settings, removal of the 4th pin in the adapter pin UP. Other guides fall short and are MASSIVELY in accurate for those who have newer systems.

Pictures are as follows:

Poor soder job, but came back to retouch as I went forward - n00b experience showing here.

I've tried both LPC rebuilds (from the OzXdus Guide and the one in this forum), and I've tried all the different D0 placements, I even resodered the pinheaders to make sure the connection was good, i've been working on this for hours.  All I get is the MS BIOS and dash.  The led on the XENIUM ICE is on (red).

WHAT DO I DO???

XBOX v1.6
Xenium ICE (NOT WORKING)

are you Fudamak from IRC. sounds like the same situation...

Successful install on 1.6 with Xenium Ice.

I found the following guide http://www.midsouthm...es/iceguide.pdf

Follow the instructions for 1.6 and you will be up and running in no time.

A tip to everyone - I wanted to get my chip installed so bad that I used a soldering iron that I already had  (higher wattage than I should have used)  and extra wire that I also had laying around and I did a very poor job of installing the chip (It didn't work and I pulled off one of the necessary traces that the chip needs to be soldered to).  I left it alone for the night and went to Radio Shack the next day and picked up a 15 watt soldering iron and 30 gauge wire.  I was able fix the trace and get the chip installed and working.  BE SURE TO USE THE PROPER TOOLS - Much Much Easier to do the install.

Good Luck and props to cap269 for the excellent guide!

Here's where my Ice sits atop my mobo:

Here's the installation underneath:

Took about a half hour, because i went back and quadruple checked everything over and over again, but the soldering wasn't too difficult. A clean tip and thin solder made it extremely easy.
