You need to flash cracked bios and install dasboard.

Just realise you where saying "default xbox menu" well I guess you mean MS dasboard.

You might have bad d0 install.

It should boot to Xenium splash screen or Xenium menu if installed correctly.

well, you were right - my d0 was out. It's in now, but now it's booting up to a blank screen. Any ideas?

Only, the ice comes pre flashed with OS2 doesnt it? Is is definatly the ice version? (white or blue)

Just another thought, have you got the chip fitted on the pins the correct way round, Very easy (and apparantly harmless) to have it back to front, check one of the LED should be facing outside edge of box
