nice, very much looking forward to it. Does anyone have pics of it installed (with an lcd screen?) that would very much help me in understanding exactly how to put it in.

I hope to put up more pictures in the next few dasy as I have some built and such.

Its pretty simple, the SPi2Par kind of 'backpacks' on the back of the xenium. then a ribbon wire goes to the lcd.

Ive know about the lcd-con for a long time now. Its no threat to the SPI2Par because it tailors to a different market, the people who dont have a lcd enabled mod. But mind you the cost of it will most likely be close to the spi2par, so for those with a Xenium there is no real reason for it. Specially since with the lcd-con will probably need either new code added into xbmc, or it emulates the addresses used by the xen or smartxx.
Good luck to them on that.

As for the SPI2Par, GREAT news.
I got the PCB in today, they look VERY nice. Im assembling them, and testing to make sure the design is fully working. Tommorow I will get the PIC chips in to complete the rest of the batch.
Ill try and put up some pictures of the boards tonight.

biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif

The boards are in and I made a few. They work BEAUTIFULLY.

Due to the cost of the PIC's i only built 8 of them. So im waiting for a few orders then I can finish the rest of the units.
So Im taking orders by email and then in a few days will have the site ready to take orders.

See the first pics,

If your interested in a SPI-> i/o let me know, I can customize the code to suit anything. IE, SPI-> Serial,  SPI -> 8 i/o,  SPI - > ??

They will work with almost any Parallel LCD. SO far all of the ones I have have worked, except 1 but Im not sure why.

Im trying to get a list of tested and working lcd models, so looking for feedback as people try it, specially the prototype users.

GreenGiant,

Just a question.  How tough would it be for an all-one-product for you.  As in putting the products you already have together.  Example, your lcd adapter, led extension for ice, and the xir, all into one product.  I would be interested in such a solution, but dont know if it would be so cost effective unless there is more demand and its not that tough for you to adapt.  Just a though.

EDIT:  Any recommendations on an LCD or manufacture link to go to and exactly what kind it will support (#of lines and characters?)

As you pointed out it would depend on demand. Doesnt seem to be very much. Even tought Ive had the SPI2Par ready for sale now, for a few days, only a very few have emailed me to order.

I dont have a list yet of compatible lcd's, but generally a parallel LCD will work. Ill post soon a list.

i think many people are waiting to see how this product turns out... many people are reluctant to run out and buy somethingthat may not be stable...

etc... customers need more confidence...

i know i will certainly buy one if i can be positive it would be a wise investment..

does this have any issues besides the one not working lcd?

does the parellel LCD function and work the same as a SPI LCD?

any issues with XBMC or other lcd displaying applications?

True enought.

The way I implemented it supports almost all the commands that the CF SPI lcd implements, in order to be fully compatible with the XOS and XBMC.
When I say almost, its because some commands like scrolling, reverse and a few others arent part of the normal parallel lcd command set thus they need to be done in software and thus much more complications, but nicely all the apps that use the LCD (as per Xenium Libs) stick to the standard (basic) available lcd commands

Problems, out of 10 prototypes, and several finals. (Dealer units I havent received full feedback yet) havent reported any problems.

The outlook is good, so much so, that the good guys at Xodus were kind enought to make the XOS' LCD code actually more stable and compatible with the Spi2par by adding a few lcd command delays that donot inhibit the lcd, but allow seamless use of the lcd via the spi2par.

Id like to put up a list of the lcd's that work, but people just dont seem to send much feedback. So so far I only have 2 lcds on the list, the CF CFAH2004 series, and the http://www.electroni...a/dip204-4e.pdf very common among alot of xbox sites (was originally sold as SPI, but later found not to work with the Xeniums SPI ports)

Do note for this lcd (http://www.electronic-assembly.de/eng/pdf/doma/dip204-4e.pdf) the way the contrast is implemented, it cant be software controlled.

So yeah, my rep says it all.

Any other questions feel free to post or email.

Add: A friend tested the Spi2Par on a 8x20 lcd. Wow is it big, Ill see about getting a reference number.
