no only the 1.6 video is a 1.6 from what i can see.  Between videos they at least change the dvd drive but i'm betting more as the box the use doesnt have the weird led thing in the front of the box.

Actually the point is that they advertised and talked and pimped up the fact that their chip would support an LCD. If you ain't gunna walk the walk the walk...please don't talk the talk. I don't care if having an LCD makes the Xbox look like a pile of monkey dung or not...the fact is that they are the ones that were going around talking it up...and now...months later..."the team" decides it's not something they are going to include? Sorry buds...that's just B.S. plain and simple.

I guess the problem lies in the fact that there was so much ground work to be done to get the new OS up and running.  I'm sure it was a tough decision to start from scratch, but looking ahead it seems the possibilities are much much greater now.

Concerning LCD, I'm not surprised it isn't making it into the beta release.  Functionality that .1% of users will use is likely to have a slightly lower priority than things that most people will use, like ftp/samba support and the installers stuff.

Also, betas are betas.  Last time I checked, just cause a company doesn't include a feature in a beta, doesn't mean they won't include shortly thereafter.  I know there are the .1% of you who really want it, and maybe another 1-2% of you who just like to complain about things in general.  And I'm sure it will be included soon.  Everyone seems to be so shortsighted it amazes me.

I'm not shortsighted or anything close to resembling such...it does chap my ass for peeps to go around running their mouths and then not be able to back it up. You all keep bringing this crap up about how it's not real important to X number or percentage of people...that's entirely NOT the point. If it was so insignificant...than why did they have to go around pimping the fact that their chip would be able to do it? It was apparently important enough for them to take the time to talk about it. It all just reminds me of a dude that was talking smack on the basketball court the other day where I live...he couldn't back his smack up either...but at least I had the satisfaction of stuffing his crap back in face when he tried. I've really looked forward to being able to incorporate an LCD into my box...mainly just to give me something to do other than listen to my wife complain and the kids cry. Useful, useless, ignorant, ugly, beautiful...it all matters not. What matters is the fact that they said it would be available/supported/possible...and it's none of the above.

Got tired of waiting for OzX to release any LCD info...so I hooked mine up myself tonight. Couldn't find a connector to mate with the one on the Xenium, so I had to solder wires onto the pads on the board. Works great in XBMC...I love it. You just don't see anything in the os or any other app that does not support it.

That's the point I have been trying to make across to people, the OS just adds support for its own LCD functions, the chip itself can already handle having an LCD installed. The only app that currently supports the LCD screen is the XBOX Media Center.

Edit: For non believers go into the LCD setting and notice you can change what modchip's LCD screen you want to use

Just tried it again with a newer build of xbmc though, and I could pick songs.

I can't believe all the whingers about LCD support, as you guys have mentioned XBMC (the only app that has LCD support anyway) has worked with the Xenium from the day that OzXodus made the announcement and video.

no, the code was not in XBMC till much later.

And I believe that dvd2xbox supports LCD, at least for the smartxx, dunno about xenium.

Well I havent read all the posts, nor will I as its not really needed.

To the very original thread starter.
The XOS does not need to have LCD support for you to use an LCD.
It is upto the individual Apps to access the LCD and such. So even right now with XOS1.1/Smartxx with proper code and wiring an LCD can be used.

The bad hting bout the LCD and the Xen is the need to buy an SPI lcd. Which costs alot compared to just parallel lcd's (parallel refers to 8 data lines, where you connect directly to the Hitachi controller) These Lcd's cost around $10 (sometimes less) and do exactly the same as the SPI ones (well all the basic things which is what really matters)

But good news, as i posted in the other thread, I played all day with some code from my friends at Ozxodus and created a circuit that is simple and allows the Spi->Parallel needed to interface the cheap LCD's to the Xenium.

I'm trying to find a connector to mate with the expansion port on the Xenium. Would you happen to know where I can find these?

You should find what you're looking for HERE. I'm sure i found the what you want at RS aswell.

EDIT: Fixed link.

I may have found it, or at least one that works with it.

Made by Molex.
Part number: 51021-1000

At the moment I dont have a ruler fine enought to compare the measurements, but from what I have been able to measure and the look, it seems it will do.
