QUOTE (naps @ May 24 2004, 06:39 PM)
A.  More expensive than x2
B.  Hassle with updating v1.1 Bios, gotta make the CD, then make sure the xbox will read the CD/DVD.  So I ended up making 2 discs, one CD, and one DVD.  Modding different xboxes will almost require this step.
C.  When you hit eject, loads the Xenium OS.  When moddin for noobie friends, they can do some damage when accessing this screen.  My main gripe is hitting the eject button loading a DVD/Xbox game, then having to hit a button to load Original bios when any other dashobard will autoload the DvD/game.

Maybe I'm so used to doing X2's.  But my Xenium installation experience was a bad one.  It took way too long, too many steps.  For a guy just wanting to get a modded xbox, I would recommend an x2 over a Xenium.

Heh, My 2 cents

A. yup, thas a given. it has been covered. your paying for all the OS features (that we dont have yet)

B. I never had a problem with this. I have 1 evox disk i made on re-writable a long long time ago (in a galaxy far far away...) since it was rewiteable I just added the new OS to it so 1 it could be seen on the  "d" drive and the dick copies it to the "e" drive on set up. (it also sets up the ftp server if i rather do it that way.)

Remebber you can build your xbox on the 1.0 OS and update the OS later, after your base drive is done.  ther is no need for multiple disks. also when 2.0 comes out. you should be able to format the drive, and then FTP from the chip itself. (only problem is chips ship with 1.0 on them. right now smartxx is winning this part. this will change soon.)

Also if you mod so many xboxes. do what I do, i have a semi-apart xbox that i use for builds just sitting there. i can just pop my chip on the header in it, then HD and set it up in seconds. i know my drive reads my boot disk, it is next to my PC, and my PC has a tv-in on it so i can see the xbox booting for troubleshooting. i think i picked that xbox up on ebay for $30 with no HD or DVD on it. since then i dropped a spare sammy in it. i used to have a PC DVD drive in it and used a UDF burned cd-rw.  because i use a headerpin (i have a plug on my D0 using the spare header pin you pull out.)  i can set up any chip i want on it x2/smartxx /xenium /chameleon /x3 / cheapmod ETC. The only chips i cant do this way is the x2plus and matrix, for those, i have programers.

you can always use its factory drive on it (or from another xbox after you unlock it. as i did, dont we all have 3+ laying around?) to test your boot disk images or pre-build ftp images. it s also nice for testing your ini files for your dashboards and XBMP/XBMC alll with no fear of messing up your main xbox if somthing goes wrong with it.

Sorry if i got long winded, but to many problems can happen if you build a lot of boxes using the 1 at a time method and you can waste a lot of time troubleshooting things. if you know your chip is flashed and boots ahead of time and your HD has a good OS/image on it. the only problem on your NEW xbox is the solder job to worry about. just pop in your chip and HD, and lock the drive at that point. you should make back that $30 in your first mod job and save hours of time. AND if your having a lan party, you can always use the added xbox biggrin.gif

I addition, Since i also have my main xbox with a 250 gig HD in it. i can use FXP or the killerfast xbox to xbox file transfer in AVAlaunch to mirror my F: drive in a few min. did you know you can fill a 120 gig drive with random crap in about 2 hours with AVAlaunch on 2 xboxes? there is the biggest time saver. i just reformated my lanparty xbox (an SE with 120gig drive) it was done almost completely unattended in the time i watched the 2 towers with my GF. no more re-ripping My originals eachtime i want a clean xbox.

C: yeah i can that issue. but after owning Xboxs since release i have always hit power intead of eject. (creature of habbit i guess)

you can: 1 turnoff quickboot and just set a 1 second boot time , or 2 do both, i set quickboot with 1 second, so if you DO hit eject. in a second it boots anyways and wants your disk.It is almost timed to you hit eject 2 times and it is happy taking your disk to boot to.  I find that with a modded xbox. it is rare i have media in my hand i want to boot to anyways. most everything i own is safe on my shelf in thier jewelboxes and i have my backup on the HD.

edit: about 2000 typos (beer is good)
