The Fear...

Its not too bad really, but Ive seen some horror stories.

The hardest part I think for a noob is the D0 point, dang is that point really small. But since you already have a chip in then maybe you already worked that out. If you order your chip from modwhiz, he gives you a short piece of 30awg kynar wire, this wire is very tiny so you could stick it in the D0 and plop some solder around it, alot easier than laying flat and trying to solder.

Now the other thing is if the LPC points are filled in or not. If its filled in you have to get some de-soldering braid to pull it out if you are going to do a pin-header install (my preference). You could meet your maker with this if you start to plop solder all over the place.

You could do a quick-solder method but I never liked the idea of it being so close to the mother board.

Either way, when all is said and done you'll think to yourself how easy it really was.

The pin-header of course is soldered to the mobo, from there its all friction. Take a look at all the install manuals on OzXodus' website and you'll see your options.

Wire from Diveneo? Dunno, probably not. Could be wrong though. If you still need the small wire and your in the US then RadioShack has it, they call it "wire-wrapping wire", be sure to get the insulated one. But of course thats a waste of money to buy a whole roll when you only need a couple inches.

Well if you are afraid to solder you can also get solderless adapter for xenium.
New version just came out that should be more reliable than ever before.

jester.gif lol, let's put it this way, i am 13 years old, and soldered my xenium in, two days time(mostly cuz i read the wrong guide to soldering...)

it's as easy as 1,2,3...

open box..., stick the pin header pins thru the bottom of mobo and heat up iron...lastly, just take your iron in one hand, a wire of solder in the other, hold the tip of part of the iron to the metal circles on the hloes, and the other part of the tip to the pin coming thru the holes...

while this is heating up, take the wire of solder in one hand, and place it so half of the tip of solder wire is touching the pin, and the other half is touching themetal circle on your mobo...(i know this is more than 123)

after about 5-9 secs(on a 15 watt iron, which is the best for electrical stuuf) the solder should start melting INTO, and around that hole...once you see it filling up to the brim, quickly take away your iron and solder wire..

that's ALL u do..

and if things get messy, go to radioshack, and for 5 dollars, buy a solder sucker, then heat the solder back up and press the button on the sucker, and poof, you just start over laugh.gif

I did it, and you can too... just MAKE SURE, you don't get dissapointed when you FRAG...it's OK it does not mean your box is broken... good luck m8!

Horror story: I was soldering my pins, and was under the impression that you are supposed to melt solder on the tip of your iron then carry it over..(bad  idea...) after I learned to solder the right way, i got the pins right, but I still got a frag and i was like hmm....

then I looked at the d0, the smallest circle you have ever seen in your life and my jaw dropped...

I started ROTFL, they made such a big fuss about this little dot on the board...then I realised, I HAD to solder this...well, first time i did it, i tried bottom d0, come to find out my d0 was corrupt, so I put it on the top(much smaller one) here are my MASTER tips,

1: Heat up soldering iron
2:melt some solder on the iron(this is one time where it is good to melt the solder on iron) MAKE SUR it is the SMALLEST amount you have ever put on an iron, so mall, you cant see it... touch the iron to the d0...you should then pull up quickly..you will see a little mountain pile up over the d0, this makes it much easier to see and melt...

3: last but not least  melt some solder, and put it on the iron, wipe some solder on you r 30 AWG wire from radioshack/divineo...now last but not least, take the wire next to the mountain, and touch the iron to them both, they sould melt within one sec. now pull your iron away quickly, and you have d0 connected.

Now, the Hard part...placing your chip on pin-headers... beerchug.gif

need anymore help, contact me...

I've had good luck with d0.  The hard part is soldering to those thin rings in the board.  If only there were solder pads on the board.

It really is had to seriously screw up.  Buy a multimeter.

There's some good soldering guides online, google the suckers before you try soldering.
