Cannot Lock Hdd In Os
« on: April 17, 2004, 07:28:00 AM »

i upgraded my hdd to a 120gb seagate barracuda. Lately, i decided to try and flash my tsop and so i had to lock my hdd to boot up through the original bios.

But when i went to look and use the "lock hdd" option under disk tools, it said lock hdd even though i didnt even remember unlocking it. when i went to click on it, it said "lock successful" but didnt change. Also, no hard drive info is given under "hd info".

I know you can unlock/lock the hdd using config magic, but i wanted to know what the problem could be with my os/chip?

The problem is that ur HD doesn't support locking..... only some HDs support locking...

I now have a 120 gb seagate barracuda that locked just fine w/ xenium OS.  But I first had a 160 gb Samsung HDD, and was unable to either lock or unlock it ( I forget which I was trying to do) with the xenium OS, yet when I popped my slayers disc in it did it just fine.  Of course, this was during the time a whole bunch of weird crap was happening with my harddrive, so thats why i replaced it with a seagate.

So I guess i just had a crappy harddrive, because my seagate works like a charm.  You could try a different program to lock it, but hopefully nothing is wrong with your hard drive itself like mine was.

just cuz yours locked doesn't mean a similar seagate will... it differs by model....

there is a list of lockable drives in the technical forums....
