Sorry for posting here, but this was too funny:

this comparison is bullshit

search for "+smartxx +xbox" and "+xenium +xbox"

as xenium is also the name for a mobilephone made by philips

SmartXX wins smile.gif

Bloody hell, its just abit of light hearted fun. Another one with no humour prehaps? blink.gif

The site clearly shows Smartxx vs Xenium, Xenium is the winner  tongue.gif

EDIT: God damn typos, my spelling is really starting to suck  sad.gif

Support is exacly what customers are expecting and that is new OS updates.
If ppl don't need a bug fix or new features well they have the option NOT TO update. People that do have a need of a specific bug update or new feature need, well thanks to SmartXX, customers get the new feature or bug fix wery fast.
It is not the case that SmartXX would be full of bugs, like Xenium did in the beginning (no flaming towards Xenium intended).

Now that Xenium did after a long wait get the OS update I think mods are pretty mutch quite eagual good. Both are aqual stable mods. Some small feature differences like larger bios memory and so, It's is more like matter of opinion who likes which. cool.gif

I probably qualify as a complete newbie... Had my Xbox for about 16 months, and just started to learn about modding in March. I've never modded a console before. I got a Xenium from Xbox-Wired.com and did a header pin install last weekend.

The soldering is easy (OK, D0 requires concentration, a magnifying glass, and filing down the tip of your iron), and setup after the install was more simple than I could have imagined. My only problem was due to not following the directions from OzXodus' site. To make a BIOS disk, they don't mention anything about making an Xbox ISO using xISO or Qwix. I figured that was an oversight and spent 2 hours reburning a CDRW over and over trying to figure out why the chip wouldn't read it. The X-OS can read native ISO discs, so once I followed the directions exactly it worked right away.

Is SmartXX "better" than Xenium? I don't know. Does Xenium do everything you're asking for? Absolutely. OzXodus' reputation preceeds itself as a trustworthy chip maker, and I am completely satisfied with their product.

Plus, Xenium looks so bad ass beatifully tucked in my xbox every time I open it.
What exactly is that Ed@Chip crap? If its anything that your dashboard can do, then whats the point?

The point of the ED @ Chip is more for initial installs when there is no dashboard on the HDD. With this, there is no need to fool around with BIOD or make boot discs etc. Now, if you already have a dash installed, then, as of now, ED @ Chip is pretty much pointless, unless you are an advanced user who wants the telnet features, because the ED @ Chip does not support the F: or G: partitions on drives over 137GB. But,  it was one of the most requested items from customers and since it makes the whole process much easier, not to mention faster, for first time installs, it makes sense to have it as a feature.

Yup, the Xenium can be completely solderless using the Chameleon solderless adapter or the new Xenium solderless adapter.  You can also use xbox live with the Xenium, all you have to do is make sure the M$ bios is loaded and your hardrive is locked.

as for the Xenium LCD

as far as cost goes, sure the Xenium is $50 and the SmartXX is $60 but I can get a 4x20 LCD for the SmartXX for about $17 while the cheapest Xenium compadible LCD I can find is $45...
50+45 ->$95 for the Xenium
60+17 ->$77 for the SmartXX
(LCD Prices from crystalfontz.com the official screen for both SmartXX and Xenium)
not only that the expensive end of the SmartXX screens are around $25 while the next model up for the Xenium is $60 and the expensive end is upwards of $100

from what I've gathered you still need to solder or crimp the wire on the LCD end to connect it to the chip.

as far as support goes from what I've gathered on the OZXodus forums the LCD isn't even fully supported in the current OS... and the official documentation and support for the LCD wont be relased until their OS2.0 update.
Correct me if I'm wrong but hasn't Xenium "supported" the LCD for months now?

go ahead and run a search on this forum or in the ozxodus forum for LCD install.... all you find is people asking how to do it.

In any case I havn't made my decision yet. I have a client who's having me install a Xenium and an LCD this weekend. I'll have my opinions settled once I complete the install...

but I think it's pretty retarded that they say their chip support things then offer no documentation or actual "support" to back it up. you'd think they were just annoucing these things to keep up  rolleyes.gif

I'd rather have a finalized and quality set of released features than more features that I need with only partial support

The reason they don't have docs out yet is (presumably) because the current released OS doesn't support the SPI/LCD expansion yet.  OzXodus have been pretty good with the docs so far, so I imagine they'll do a decent job when the OS support is ready.

Where are you finding LCDs that are so cheap for the SmartXX?  I find it hard to believe that they support displays that cost 1/4 as much, when the real cost of an LCD display is presumably the LCD itself, not the interface board.  (Okay, you told me where..but what LCDs are you talking about?  What interface do they use?)

the Xenium LCDs are more expensive because they are more complex and have more features.... you will find out all in good time.....

wink.gif  Okay, maybe two features, the second being to light up.

Still it sounds odd to me that SPI can be that expensive to implement.  Perhaps it's more of a supply/demand thing, since there is probably much more demand for straight serial LCDs, so the R & D costs are spead out a lot more.

I'd like one to play with, but it's not quite worth the cost for me at the moment.  That, and it's not actually supported yet, so why should I get a useless screen for my 'box?
