3rd or 4th Gen doesn't matter it more based on choice.
I highly recommend Xenium due to the solderless adapter option!
Yes all you need is to install EvoX or your preferred Dash and a copy of XBMC to play your DivX, XVid and etc...  Also all you need to share is to turn on file and print sharing in Windows (SMB)

Hey SyX;

We have both the SmartXX and Xenium chips in stock, and we use both chips all the time, we really think it's up to the customer, both chips have great features about them, the SmartXX is easier to use with the LCD screen as the support is more out there for that for the SmartXX!!
Yes the Xenium is great with the solderless option we do agree with that, we also just solderded a ground on the D0 for the solderless adapter to the D0 on the SmartXX making it pretty much solderless as well mounting it to the solderless adapter works perfect!!

Don't forget that Xenium has a much easier LCD install, and has a larger bank for it's OS(meaning more possible features in the future).  Also a definite plus is that the Xenium team(OzXodus) speaks native english, and do not lie about "supposed" features that their chip has.  Remember that some distributors may be pushing SmartXX over the Xenium because they want to liquidate the less popular chip that they have sitting in stock.  smile.gif

I love the Xenium.. but honestly.. if this is your first modchip.. you are in luck.. as the Xecuter 2.3b, Xenium, and SmartXX are great chips to start with. (and so much better than what we had in the beginning. (better being relative.. but it is my opinion nevertheless)

Buy what is available.. unless you can/want to wait.

Buy a real chip.. from any authorized dealer from any of the chip manuafacturers.. and you can't go wrong.

Heh, you see the thing here is, sure there are updates for the SmartXX, But some people do get tired of having update after update that get rid of what seems to have been hundreds of bugs if they have to release updates to them every week wink.gif

95% of the updates to SmartXX are Bug fixes, Perhpas the Xenium OS might take a little longer to be released, but it is sure alot less buggier then the SmartXX's OS it seems..

To all the people saying that the Smart XX OS updates are mostly for bug fixing, you're wrong. If you check the changelog, you see that yes there is a bug fix in every release, but there are also like five or six nice features added that the customers requested on their website. No, we don't care about having to update our OS. Hell, if they came out with a new update everyday I wouldn't care because the SmartXX has the option to flash the chip over a network. This means all I have to do is type my box's ip into IE and slect the update. Done. So it all depends on your style. If you want not as many features, but an easier install and the easire (though more expensive) LCD option, etc. get a Xenium. However, if you want a more advanced chip that has more flash space (yes there are uses for it esp. with ED @ Chip which takes up 2 MB), easier BIOS flashing, better software (including more updates which ARE A GOOD THING) then get the Smart XX. The choice is up to you as both chips are good and have their individual strengths and weaknesses.
