No...

And doing so could lead to corruption of the OS, requiring a recovery.

There was a small bug in 1.0 that would make flashing outside the OS possible, with some trickery (which I'll not go into).... but this has been fixed.

Trust me.... it's better that you can't.

Frank,
Using the latest evox, goto system tools and click on Flash Bios, Select a bio.
It will then show a samll dialogue box.

If it shows Manufacturer ID 01 and Device ID c4
Then you will be able to flash your Xenium, with the proper line in Evox.ini to match that man/dev id's.

I suppose if you'd configured your bios bank as one giant 1024 bank.  But suppose you've config'd like most of us have, as 4 X 256.

And let's assume you have... oh, say M7 in bank 1.  So you throw X2.4981 as a bios.bin on your C: drive, and you select to flash from within the EvoX dash.  I just checked, and my EvoX has no way of knowing that I have multiple banks to pick from.  Granted, I'm still running EvoX .3285, so the upgrade to .3935 might help, but I don't see how.

I would think that the default flash would be to bank 1, overwriting the M7 already there, no?  I could see how this could easily corrupt something.

Could be interesting to try... you first! *S*

Artifex is if not the head leader, one of the leaders of OZXodus and the Xenium Production!  wink.gif

who's right?  Artifex or greengiant?

Gee, if I could pick between trusting one of the designers of the Xenium or Joe Schmoe off the street, I think I'd stick with the first one. If they don't want you flashing the bios from an outside application, then there must be a pretty good reason why. If you still try to do it, don't come whining here when you broke your mod chip smile.gif

Yeah, that's right, you'll be able to flash your Xenium within EvolutionX.  ALL OF IT!  No more XeniumOS, probably no more "recovery mode", kiss the lot goodbye as you overwrite the 1MB of the Xenium's TSOP that contains the XeniumOS itself!

Small tech hitch with that post.. The Xenium has a 2 MB flash area... 1 for the Xenium OS.. 1 For BIOS's...

I got no idea what would happen if he flashed that 1 MB file to the 2 MB flash area.

I don't own a Chameleon modchip.
But according to the documention here:
http://www.xbox-wire...usermanual.html
Evox can be setup to flash the Chameleon modchip on a bank by bank basis.
So it follows that the same "might" be possible for the Xenium.

True.
If the desingers of the Xenium don't think this is a good idea for -whatever- reason
then who is to argue with them.

Greengiant is hardly some Joe Schmoe off the street.
Although he could keep his computer and soldering iron in a cardboard box
in a back ally somewhere and or sleep in a van down by the river... I dont know...

I am not sure but I think he meant that it "can" be flashed
which was something that he was simply pointing out to the developers.
Notice that he didnt point out the correct command line to add to Evox to make this possible.

Of coarse I could be completely wrong.

Who the fuck are you refering to me as Joe Schmoe. Some respect here !

Artifex is one of the devs on the Xenium, so yes you should listen to him.

For me, I try things see what happens, take the risk. I have been able to flash the chip, and so have others. But you do so at your own risk.

So far I havent been able to corrupt the OS, mistakenly... only on purpose.

Sorry, I didn't mean it in a bad way. I guess I was just refering to "someone else" who wasnt directly involved with the modchip. I hope theres no offence taken.

yes there have been problems because some of the types of DVDrom drives that are installed in the xbox don't work with most cdrs and a few cdrws......

what the heck is a verse? i know the word but i've never heard that relating to a file on the DVDrom drive.

AFAIK, the only people who have screwed the XOS up was a few morons and a few people seeing if it could be corrupted... however, the recovery mode works in most circumstances.....

Sorry, there are just many people who come to the Xenium board asking questions they could find in the manual or not even owning a Xenium.....
