Question Regarding Solderless Adaptor & Xbox V1.0
« on: March 10, 2004, 12:15:00 PM »

You actually don't have to desolder the holes.  You should be able to seat the adapter over the soldered holes and it should work.  If you were to de-solder the LPC points I'd suggest taking the motherboard out.  As for the rivets, yeah they're really small.  I used a pair of needle nose pliers to drop them in the holes.

Does a rivet go in the D0 point? From the looks of the docs, aparently there's one in the pics, but no mention in the text.

solderless manual

From what I've seen in the forums, if you have solder in your LCP point the rivets aren't needed. The solder on the LCP points provides a seat for the pins. Just wiggle and wait for success then tighten it down.

(edit:  I don't know about installing rivets in a LCP point that has been filled with solder, my best guess would be if the rivets *can* fit in there, do it, if not, the solder does the job of the rivets, any expert advice from experience would be welcome)

no, don't think a rivet goes in the d0, just the wire, its really tiny, what you might be seeing is the outer circle of the d0 point

The rivets are a bitch !

I used a set of pliers to move/install mine in my v1.3 box with  a xenium.

You dont use a rivet for d0 point the wire just fits by itself.

I v1.0 box leave the solder there and just move adaptor around till u get it too light up.

Q.
Why dont they make a second adaptor (with bigger posts) so the rivets are not needed ?

Well they don't make it with larger pins because not everyone uses a solderless adaptor.  It costs more to make the pins bigger and if you solder it in you pretty much do not need the larger pins.  The rivets are a good, cheap alternative  biggrin.gif

HAHA, I still remember doing my friend's no-solder setup.  I used my girlfriend's eybrow tweezers to seat those rivets in the LPC holes!   blink.gif ... actually they're quite easy to use!   biggrin.gif

Cheers.
