Orange Flashing! Help
« on: March 02, 2004, 09:01:00 PM »

Ok, I have post this problem on the ozxodus official forum.
However I've got only this reply for my iquiries during 4 days..

sipal.. ^^

The Xenium's Recovery Mode which you entered by chaning the switch position is not compatible with the component video cable so when attempting to perform the Xenium-OS reload/repair please have the Standard AV cable inserted.

Please tell us what text is visible during the Recovery Mode process
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do you think this is appropriate and good support for the customer??????????

Below was my question...

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have installed Xenium sucessfully at first, I could flash bios,
upgrade OS to 1.1....... It looked like operating normally.

Then, I have flashed the xecuter bios and changed the booting sequence to instant boot. Also I have backed up my eeprom.
I restarted system... It started to fraging without video.
I have resoldered all the pinheaders.... couldnt solved the problem.
So I have removed the pinheaders and used quick solder installation method. Now it shows OZXODUS OS screen(without menu and controller
image, just displaying webpage) with orange light flashing on the DVD
button.(Xenium LED stays constant red)

1. I suspected OS corruption, so I tried to upgrade OS. When I inserted recovery.bin file to the DVD tray, the color of Xenium LED changes red to
bright green then to dark green, then the system is truned off automatically. The tray eject button shows fragging during the CD reading. This could be done independent of safe mode swithch. That's all.
If I restarts the system... same orange flasing.

2. Since my xbox version is 1.4, at first install it showed no video with
the OS1.0 and component cable connected. however after the upgrade of
OS I could see the video with my xbox. Now I can only see the video with
only composite cable connected. If I boot with componened video cable,
there is no video, however if I boot with composite video and then switches to componet video cable, the video on TV is blinking with noise.

What happened to the Xenium?????? and how can I fix the problem?

1. controller incompatibility? NO, I don't think so. since with my first
install, my controller worked perfectly. And still it works with original
TSOP booting.

2. Have I fried my xbox? NO, since if I just remove d0 wire it boots normally to original mode.

3. Bad bios flash? ..... I dont know. OK.. If this is because of bad bios and/or bad bios flashing, why I cant enter the OS menu with no controller? I tried booting with power and eject buttion with holding
white button on controller. No success.

4. XENIUM OS problem?????????????

I have checked continuity of all my LPC ports from back side point of Mobo to the point on the chip. no problem (0 to 0.002 ohm).

Also I have checked the possibility of microbridge among lpc ports, with/without xenium connected. They showed resistence between mega
ohm to 10 kilo ohm range although not infinite. Lpc #2 and #12 showed
0 ohm (right? since these two are ground).

One weired thing is there is a some connection between #5 and #9
around 100 ohm. This could be problematic? In spite of my trial to find
out exact values of resistance between lpc ports, I couldn't get.
If this is problem how can I fix it?? Is it possible these are bridged together without bridging to physically near #7 ???

the second weired thing is lpc port #1 gives 1.5V not the posted 0.2V.
And also the #3 gives 2.5V.
All the others are giving good.. 3.3 or 5 or ground..
I tried connecting the xenium without pin #3(on 1.4 it is disconnected)
still gives same orange flashing...

Please help me out......................
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've read and read.... your faq and manuals and forums.
so, SURELY I always used composite video except for testing component.....

I had to use (no video with component) and have used standard AV cable came with my original xbox pakage(composite, yellow for video and red and white for audio) for recovery mode and normal mode.
Still same video just showing ozXOdus main(xenium chip overlaid with your website address) page without controller connected. I couldn't enter the OS menu.

What text with OS recovery? no text except for your webpage on the video. The video is always same (just main video, xenium chip and webpage) independent of the recovery swithch position.

Actually, I've seen some text for about 1 second (my feeling) before the video comes on with my first installation of xenium. Now, however I can barely see the text before main(?) video. It looks like there is some video
for just 0.01 second before your main video.

If I insert recovery CD, Only the LED color on xenium changes from constant RED to bright green, then dark green.. turn off. This is also
independent of recovery switch position.

One more phenomenon that I have;
If I boot with the component cable attached, there is no video.
perhaps normal, right? Then if I switch to composite video cable from component(with xbox turned on), xbox turns off automatically without showing any video.

The reverse is the same as what I have stated above. Noisy blinking video.

Is there problem with my video chips? It looks like there is significant
temprature increase on my nvidia chip. Is this normal??

Thanks.
