How To Wreck Your Xenium Using Their Instructions
« Reply #15 on: February 23, 2004, 12:26:00 PM »

OK, after about half an hour on IRC I get the comment that maybe my chip had a bad day

Although I checked all voltages and continuity, I was told to reheat my board...I did. Still frag. Then I am told that it isn't the code, but that sector I wrote to really is write-protected afterall?
Fujitech wouldn't read my posts that took me hours to do, to outline the details. I don't have time to rewrite all of the details line by line on IRC.
I was asked to take pictures of my xbox with a digital camera, just in case somehow my  chip that was working before the update, somehow led to my motherboard and chip being physically damaged after the update??
I get arrogant requests for one word answers to all of the details I posted. Apparenly Fujitech doesn't have the 'time' to read all of my details.
In all fairness, I have not talked to artifex yet. But right now it is looking REAL BAD for OZXodus claim that their chip can't be corrupted.

Electronic devices are very unpredictable, and can fail at any time. Usually, I have found that they fail at the most inopportune times. Even the best name brands of consumer devices experience defective products. I have read all of your posts, several times, even.

As for the recovery mode switch, it works fine on a 100% working chip. I am suggesting that perhaps you have a defective modchip. It can happen. All it takes is for one register to fail and the whole thing is worthless.

Even if the instructions are wrong; even if the installation was flawless; even if everything up to this point was 100% perfect; the chances of a defect showing up are still very probable. There is no way that I know of for the write-protected portion of the chip to be messed up by a user, unless the chip itself somehow just went bad. It could have been "partly bad" the whole time, and just suddenly went bad at this time.

FWIW, I screwed up my chip's flash while fooling around with it and got the FRAG. I switched to recovery mode, the "recovery.bin" file was still on my E: from when I previously updated, and it found it and loaded it. After switching the switch back and rebooting, it worked perfectly. I didn't even have to re-flash my BIOS (but I did have to rename the banks, as my custom names were gone).

Got to get back to studying, mechanics exam tomorrow:(
Artifex will you be online tonight at about 10-11pm? Hopefully IRC will not be too crowded then?

Yes, I should be around.  If I appear not to be, I'm probably just not watching the channel closely.... msg me, or say my nick in channel, and IRC will *beep beep* letting me know you're looking for me.  biggrin.gif

It may take some extensive debugging, and I've seen from your post on the ozxodus fourms that you're up for that, but we'll get you sorted out one way or another.

I, myself, am very curious as to what the problem is.

Looking forward to speaking with you in person,

Just a side note...  These forums aren't official OzXodus help forums or anything.  The fact that they won't read your posts here might be a little annoying, but they never claimed they would.  So it doesn't come as much of a surprise to me that Fujitech wants you to repeat everything in the channel.

Anyway, good luck with your chip.  Must be a pain in the ass right now.

FYI, he was referring to using a Soft-mod to ftp the recovery.bin to your E: partition, not to flash your TSOP.

Yup indeedy doo

Thanks Flagg I must of missed a post there  blink.gif  blink.gif  blink.gif lol
And I've never seen a box yet that wouldn't work a softmod
Just softmods are not infalible

Not much need for 2 threads on the same subject.
I am closing this one, but will leave your other thread open.
If that thread turns into a bitch fest it will be closed too.
