How To Wreck Your Xenium Using Their Instructions

I dunno.  I used the HDD method and had no problems.  Not really sure how to help you.  If you were so suspicious of the ISO method...then why did you use that???

I thought it was all the same. After the first few tries I mounted the ISO on an image drive, copied the recovery.bin to my desktop and then burned CD-RW with the 'dummy files' posted on OzXodus site. I tried this a number of times.
I did try the HDD method and I got nothing---no one mentioned I had to convert the Bin file to XISO-but later a mod-retailer told me this. I did delete it from HDD before going back and trying the CD-RW method again.
I think manually flipping the switch on the chip was the killer. In the manual it said that if you were having problems using recovery mode from OS, to flip the switch out of safety mode. I did. There was supposed to be some sector of the AMD FLash ROM that was left unaccesable by the team---to ensure against a software OS failure followed by a hardware OS failure (the flipped switch)? Apparently this isn't so. I should have left the thing with V1.0 OS and not bought the hype put out by OzxOdus about the chip being fail-safe from a bad flash.

Dark one,
Maybe I was doing something wrong. But the thing is advertised as being fail safe against bad flashes. I didn't apply a voltage to the chip or some bizarre thing, I was just trying to update.
I have the ISO image mounted on Nero IMage drive right now. I see 2 files. On is titled ADUMMY.BIN and is 338,492 KB. The other is RECOVERY.BIN which is 563KB

sounds to me like your install might have gone bad. the whole idea of the switch is to load the recovery mode cromwell for updates which as far as i know isnt touched by the update. i was told it is writeprotected.

i think if you spoke to one of the ozxodus guys on irc they would have your problems sorted out in a matter of minutes.

i used e:\ upgrade myself but did a cd upgrade for a mate and it worked perfect both times.

Well, I posted to the forum asking if no one would help, if they could give me instructions on how to get onto IRC? No reply

It is possible the install went bad. I have a female pin-header socket soldered into my LPC port. I use male/male pin headers to plug in mods. So the socket didn't change during the update. Also, If I take the mod off the LPC port, I get a boot to MS dash---no problems.

There was one wire to install for the Xenium. I used a Weller WCTPT. It has a superconductor in the tip that prevents any surface from exceeding 700 degrees. I can leave it on a PCB and it will never burn it. I think that the iron's capability to measure the curie point of solder alloy is maybe more reliable than the code put out by OzXodus

Sounds like this is not likely a bad install, then!

As was suggested, the IRC channel would probably be your best bet.  It's #OzXodus on EfNet

Look for me there, I'm almost always around (unless I'm asleep) and I'd be more then happy to walk through the process with you, and try and pin down where things are going wrong.

Also.... your explanations are a little confusing.  You are getting a FRAG regardless of the position of the recovery switch?  With the switch in "normal" position, are you getting any video at all, or a black screen, reboot 3x, and FRAG?

With the switch in recovery mode... do you get the "Got from HDD" or "Got from CD" text?  Or does it say "Loading.... FAILED!"?

IF you are getting the "Got from..." messages.... are you waiting 2 minutes or so before turning the console back off?

Again... would be best to try and catch one of us in IRC, for realtime, live support.... it's easier that way.

More then happy to help,

The only reason you could get a FRAG, regardless of switch position, is a defective chip.

Try and catch me on the irc tomorrow evening, as i'm also off to bed.  We appear to be in the same timezone. ;-)

We take any problems with our units VERY seriously .. I personaly believe you should check your install, it sounds a lot like the chip is okay still but soemthing has gone wrong with your install ..

what I think has happened is that your physical actioan of movign the switch has disconnected or caused a dry join on one of your LPC points .. please try check your install from top to bottom .. and let us know ?

Regards

Xodus

( rest assured we do not hype things like the safety of recovery mode !!! )

Thank you for pointing out the error in the manual I will make sure it gets eddited today

Have you thought to run a CD/DVD cleaner through that drive of yours? (run it about 7 or 8 times)
And also someone said they actually had trouble with RW's but it worked on an R bizzar I know but worth a try.
I've also noticed pulling the power on my xbox can sometimes have 'refreshing effects'

If your really in dire pull the chip and run a softmod (gamesave hack on MA Splintercell or 007) so you can FTP the recovery.bin file to drive e: (Partition1)

oblox ,
Thanks for soft-mod tip. I have a 1.4, and have the WinBond ROM. I don't know if anyone has successfully soft moded these ROM. In Feb 2003 the company added a write protect feature (some gate delay) that could be enabled. I am not sure if MS has a trace going to the pin that does this. I printed out the data sheets for that chip from Winbond website. It was about 40 pages and I just didn't want to go through the specs. I like to read about the chips I play with before I tray and flash them or do anything.

The AMD ROM on Xenium is flashable. I think the original xbox's used an AM29F version of this chip as their ROM. So this line of chip is very nice to act as an 'alternative' ROM when the xbox is forced to boot from the LPC---say for instance if the least significant data bit (lets call it D0:) ) is forced to ground.

There you go, your christmas light syndrome Is none other than a case of suck soldering-stolen from cap269"You have nothing other than a bad case of cold joints"

Anyways, resolder your points, and let us know if the FRAG stops...

Anyways, here is my problem, when I go into  recovery mode from the O.s. screen,  my box's liight flashes green and says something like "loading.....failed" then my Xbox light turns steady red while Xenium L.E.D stays blue...

I can't exactly see what it is because I have a 1.4 with  focus encoder... I am going to put the stuff on my e: partition, using avalaunch's file manager, to get the HDD version off a cd.

So, what do you think it could be that causes it to say Loading....failed?
