Xenium: Crap?
« on: February 17, 2004, 12:02:00 PM »

Well, I like my Xenium ... it's lived up to everything I expected. Maybe I just don't expect much ... It let me add a big HD, it let me FTP to the xbox, it lets me run backups, it lets me play music and videos, it lets me run a debug BIOS for my development efforts, it lets my 13 year old son play Halo mods ... and I could go on and on ... I'm happy with it. It does everything I paid for it to do.

First off you can never expect a new chip to be flawless.. Thats retarded thinking.
Its trial and error and thats what updates and revisions are for. The first release is just a taste of its power and when perfected will be among the greats.

wtf are you smoking... we're paying for these mod chips. they should be perfect.  you don't release a piece of crap.  you test it.  geez.

I'm pretty disappointed.  Ive done boxes for people with live.  They cant play with a Xenium because they cant boot to their friggin TSOP's.  Now I am having to hardwire a switch for them.  Also, some of these guys only HAD S-controllers.  They had to shell out 30.00 for a standard controller because thats the only one that worked.  I told them "just wait, soon they will fix the OS and it wont be a problem".  They are lucky they didnt listen to me or they wouldnt have been able to play games for weeks.  Arent we coming up on a month?  Or am I wrong.  Talked to some people in IRC and they said its comin real soon so thats reassurance.

All I can say is the OzXodus guyshave been too slow in fixing there problems.
We can already get an update for the SmartXX (this should mean that if they have some of the prorblems what the Xenium had then the users can fix them themselves).
If the SmartXX is released before the Xenium OS update can kick in (meaning have time for people to confirm it's all working fine) then they are going to be in trouble and people will choose the SmartXX instead of the Xenium which is always bad news for anyone who owns a different product.
Nice idea shame on the speed/lack of testing (released too fast too soon), product suport (why didn't you just release a new OS that fixed the problems just to get it up and running fine?!?).

I hate to agree but it sure does remind you of M$

thats a car not a chip..  big price difference..my guess is its not very cost effective to test and work out everylittle bug when people were practically begging for it to be released. Just because there are bugs does not mean the chip is not functioning.. It still does what it was meant to do. Me i have had no problems but the ones ive heard can been dealt with until the update....

maybe.. but there are many people hear who are quite young, 50 bucks for a modchip isnt always the easiest thing to come up with when you are 13.  Especially when most parents arent exactly fond of the idea or modding a 200 dollar game console.

But regardless of the price, it is a product that you paid money for, you expect to work as advertised.

And who was 'begging' for it to be released?  They announced the merger of their 2 teams, their chip, and had them in stores in less than 3 weeks time.  No one knew a thing about it until that first announcement.

Big problem is with all the bugs and stuff in computer software and stuff we are all been brainwashed into believing it is acceptable for new products to have design faults. New products should not have design faults thats the idea of research and development. Modchips like anything else should be tested by the designers not by somebody who spends his hard earned cash to buy a modchip. When you pay for a product you are entitled to expect it to work correctly.

I think not. You paid good money for it and you expect it to work. Well, so do I.

Cars are released with "bugs" all the time. Ever hear of factory recall campaigns?

Wow I am surprised at how many people are ripping on this great chip.
...
The problem I find is people that have problem generally, not everyone mind you, do not take the time to research and read up the massive materials available about the chip, install, and user guides.
...
I work in the IT and tech industry and people really need to stop expecting others to do everything and think for them, and start doing their own research and actually form their own opinions and thoughts.
...
Not every product in the world produced for sale is perfect, or functional, DOA's and errors happen.

Of course it has bugs,  what brand new product is ever free from ALL bugs?

If you think the Xenium is crap then you might as well go back to a older chip, cuz Xenium, SmartXX, Xecuter 3,  there all gonna be the same damn thing.  The only difference is gonna be in the OS if that.  So buy yourself a Xbit or a good ole Chameleon.

My TV DVD VIDEO MP3 player.
The statement you made is what I was referring to when I said we are conditioned to accept bugs and faults in new stuff. If I was flying on a plane I would not expect the the onboard computers to have bugs in the new chips it has.
I am not saying Xeniums are no good  cos I think the "teething trouble" bit applies to lots of stuff we buy, but it does not mean it is right.

Chancer:Exactly right.
If the XBox had come out with even one-tenth of the bugs that the Xenium has come out with, everyone would be screaming and carrying on, cursing M$ at every opportunity a baying for Bill Gates' blood...
Double standards, that's what I'm saying. Why put up with a lack of desire by the manufacturers to meet consumer expectations and basic rights when handing over their hard-earned money?
Why are so many people so complacent about this issue? If you have so much money that you don't mind being blatantly ripped-off, send it my way!
