KLAXX Part 3: The Revenge

Well..

Thanks for the additional pictures..

Now where do we start.. you said last I checked in.. that the XBOX wil function with no chip.. but frags if you attach the chip.

Well.. if this was any normal modder.. I'd say Check D0 and check your points... however.. since you've assured us your points are good and your soldering skill is sound.. lets take a look at your pics shall we?

Good news.. nothing really bad to say about this one.  Bad angle but clear shot nevertheless.

Next...

Hmm.. nice shot.. decent view.. now lets fire up the trust computers in the BATCAVE...

HOLY RAISED PINHEADERS BATMAN.  WTF is that?

The Pinheader is clearly raised.. and then you soldered a marble to the pin header on pin 2.  Did you ever intend to mount a chip on that header?  From the looks of it from this angle.. the chip would only go half way down that pin header.

Also noticable... is that the Pin Header is clearly not straight.. look at the rows of pins.. they should be perpendicular to each other (yes people.. I said perpendicular.. I did go to school too.)

I think we need to see this from another angle.. Robin.. if you'll do the honours...

Wow.. you do have a nice camera.  I wish most of my shots were that sharp.  Something is clearly wrong with that pin header though.. let's looks CLOSER....

user posted image

Ahh.. it's all so clear now.

Actually.. it's not clear at all what you think you are trying to do.  At the point I marked one. (pin 15) the pin header looks like you mounted it more or less flush to the motherboard.

Now.. look at pin 1.. what is that marble doing between the motherboard and the black plastic?  and why have you not cleaned the mess you made on the pin header before re-soldering it.  From the looks of it.. point 2 as marked in the picture.. is probably NOT even soldered to the LPC holes.

It looks like it's just sitting there in place.

This is the best advice you will get on this board.. assuming your chip still works.. assuming your pin header is still usable.. assuming your LPC isn't fried..

PLEASE FOR THE SAKE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY.. GET A PRO TO FIX AND FINISH THIS MESS.

It's clear you still don't know what you are doing.. and nothing we have said has sunk in yet.

Stop torturing that motherboard.  The only good thing we have learned.. is that the Motherboard is clearly tough and can withstand the extreme conditions you are throwing at it.

Multiple solder attempt.. bending the Pinheader like a rollercoaster.. frying the lpc (or at least trying too)

PLEASE.. get a pro.  Hell.. get a 5 year old.  Anyone who can read guides.. follow pictures.. (you clearly did not look at the nice PINHEADER pics I posted otherwise you would not show us these and say you know what you are doing..)

Please.. (3rd time) get help.

I'm still waiting to find out what those wires are used for... P.S. does anyone know where I can Find A torx10 and torx20 aka T10 and T20? And if I have a 1.5, what extra wire do I need for power, and where would I solder this extra wire... I got my xbox about a week before the christmas we just had...

Klanxx, if you havent noticed, you're bridging about 12 points with that red wire, i reccomend you use a braid and resolder it.  I can already tell that that is way to much solder for such a small point.

QUOTE (lip @ Feb 5 2004, 11:19 PM)
Maybe instead of bad mouthing this guy, a little encouragement and plain instructions instead of "do a search", "your soldering sucks", "you are a tool", etc.......

Do you honestly think you are helping this guy out by making fun of him.

You are all a bunch of a**h**es for doing this...I thought most of you were better than this from your previous mails...

To the poor soul who's motherboard seems fried...leave me a message and I'll try and help you out.  Your soldering skills are not necessarily lacking as much as the soldering iron you are using ( this is probably your problem).

Lord knows I've tried to help.

He still hasn't told us what guide told him to do that.

He said this wasn't his first soldering project.  He said he knows what he's doing.

He said he "fixed" his soldering.  Looks at the pictures.. you tell me if he has.

He's got guides.. he's got MY pictures to show him how to do it.

How does he go from his buggered first install when I show him how the pinheader should look to his third attempt with a raised pinheader covered in much and twisted like a rollercoaster.

I'm glad you are offering him some direct help.  What he needs to do is CLEAN up his pinheader.. chean his motherboard assuming it can be.. and take the time to read.. review the photos posted here and other official sources.. then take a crack at it.

Also.. he could be using a 15, 30 or higher soldering iron.. and it STILL WOULD NOT BE the reason all this has happened.  He's continuing to make the same mistakes over and over.. and not looking at the pictures.

I do hope you can and will help him. If not for him.. and least for that tortured board.  It's been thought enough pain and suffering.

I will however continue to help and offer advice.

CLEAN that pinheader, straighten it or replace with a new one.. clean the LPC top and botton.. and redo all the D0 attempts (and clean out the likely bridges.

Course.. that all assumes the board truly is still functional.

Tidusblitz111 try your local hardware store. Sometimes they wont call it a torx screwdriver so describe it to them that you are looking for a screwdriver set with star tips and is in set that looks like a swiss army knife. Dont get the individual tools cause there just harder to find. The whole set will cost you about 10 bucks or less so it aint to much

Thank you psycho, I will definitely check at Radioshack, and the computer store by my house. I got a swiss army screwdriver set for my B-day from a friend some time ago, and it has whatr seems to be a T20, because it has the star shaped bit, and it opens the screws on the botttom of my box. It also has what seems to be a T15, because it is smaller than the 20 and yet will not fit into the internal screws.

So, I will check out Radioshack, and I was thinking, maybe a soldering gun would not be such a bad idea for his install, being he obviously does not know how to use a soldering pencil/iron.

Anyways off to the stores to look for the screwdrivers, and flux...and an kynar 30wag  for the d0.
