Bios Flash Problem
« on: January 24, 2004, 10:39:00 AM »

The xbox is way picky about media I just found out this morning.  I have a few coasters to account for that.  I ended up using the DVD+RW that came with my drive and that worked great if i used Xiso (can dl from xbins) and burned the DVD using finalizing in nero.

I also just snagged the new harddrive evox iso and burned that it worked great after I flashed my bios.

QUOTE (bigfootale @ Jan 24 2004, 11:13 AM)
After a loooong night of trying to install the xenium, i was able to get the xeniumos to boot and all the leds seem to be correctly flashing (red then blue).  I have 2 qustions now:
1) pin3 on the lpc bus showed no reading (resistance), but all the rest did.  The chip appears to be working- should i be worried about this?
2) i want to flash the m7 bios to one of the banks, and have burned it on cd-r and dvd-r without success- it says 'unable to read file from disk'.  Does it have to be RW media even if it is a dvd?
3) Do i change the bios into an iso, then burn as image, or can i just burn it as a data file?
4) With the bios installed is it possible to install dashboards, or is the xeniumos my dashboard?

I know these answers are probably everywhere, but I am confused with having the xeniumos.  This is my first mod and the answers are probably so obvious that I am missing them.  Thanks in advance.

1)  if it works I wouldn't worry about it. You many end up making it worst if you try to fix it.

2) I have had good luck with both CDRW and DVDRW, I would just go an electronic store and just pick up a cheap box of CDRWs, you will probably save yourself a lot of headaches

3) For flashing the bios, I have just been using the cdr software built into XP. So you do not need to create an xiso.

4) You have to have a dashboard installed, once XOS loads the bios, if you do not have a dashboard installed you will just get an error.

Bios Flash Problem

This may be a noob question but I hope someone can help with my bios problem. I've managed to do my very first mod and all seemed to go well as I get the splash screen and all. I'm trying to flash the bios with 4981.06 and it seems to have loaded according to the screen. I then went to the "Flash Program" option and it said "Flashing" after I picked one of the banks. However, nothing seems to have been loaded on any of the banks as when I try to select on of the banks the screen blacks out and the XOS shuts down and reboots? I need clarification on the process or what I might be doing wrong. Been reading for hours and gone through a few too many cdrw's. Do I take the 256k file and burn that will a dummy file or do I need to make it a 1mb file in xbtool then burn to disc with a dummy file. Any help to get me to the next step of installing the dash would be appreciated.

All the sets are in the XOS manual and have been posted on this board many times, but Here are the steps again,

1) install modchip
2) download the bios
3) burn the bios to a cd-rw (I havent tried cd-rs)
    rename the bios to bios.bin
I burnt the bios.bin file just using the XP built in cdr software, so nothing special is needed
4) boot xbox with the white button down to enter the XOS setup
5) Configuration -> Bios/Bank Configuration -> flash Bios
6) Select the bank to flash (I picked the first bank 256k)
7) Select Use D:bios.bin (it should give you a message that is found the bios)
8) Select Program Flash
9) Return to the main menu and select the bank to boot the bios

Easy as pie

Bios Flash Problem

I followed your check list, notkevin, but for some reason it still boots to MS BIOS.

Found file, OK
Flashing to Bank 1 (512KB)
Load Bank One
Default Flubber followed with Disc Read Error.

I select Evox M7 ef and it just continues with the MS.  Can I skip right to the 'Eject Fix' version of Evox?  What am I doing wrong?

I will try and describe it as best I can.  I pick the BIOS I want to use from the menu (Evox M7 ef).  The screen goes black and continues with the normal boot process.  It boots to the original BIOS even though i choose Evox! I know these are the default MS BIOS because it says MS under the XBox logo.

Am I flashing it correctly?  Xenium detects the file on the CDRW and names it Evox.
I choose "program flash" and it does.  No errors at all.

The M7 bios I have says MS under the Xbox logo. When I try to boot off of a bank with nothing on it, the box just reboots. It still looks like you have a good flash but the bios can't find your dashboard.  Try getting ahold of the slayer's evox auto-installer (you can find more infor about it on the evox section of the forum) I have not tried it, however everyone says it is easy to get started, otherwise you can im me when I am online and I'll send you a working boot disk or something.
