Two Questions:

I got the chip installed and when the menu screen come up the brightness keeps fading in and out.... getting lighter and darker.  Anyone elase seen this??

Second I want to flash the Xecuter bios.  So select 4x256k as my configuration, burn the bios as bios.bin to a cd with a 300 mg dummy file and try and flash.  I keep getting an error saying that the bios is not sized propery?? Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

thanks,

1) nope haven't seen it

2) Sounds like a bad bios file, I would download the latest one again. I have not had any problem with X2 4980, I have flashed it at least a dozen times now. Also, i haven't needed a dummy file when burning the bios cd.

Does it matter what the dummy file is?  Exactly what nees to be on this disc?

For flashing the bios I dont think you need one, at least I didn't.

The dummy file can be anything really, just a bunch of files or one big one, doesn't matter.

The reason people use a dummy file is because sometimes certain Xbox drives have trouble reading a disc with only a single 256k file on it.

Most people don't need the dummy file, but it really doesn't hurt to through it on the disc either.

use a dummy file (it can't hurt, i used a 100MB one).  If you are having problems getting the box to read your disc use a DVD-R or DVD+R (DVD+R only works on thomson drives, i've read) -OR-  If you're using a CD-RW, try using a virgin disc.  hope that helps.

thanks,

I think your first problem might be macrovision related?

Do you have your xbox connected to your tv through a vcr?
