I bought a new xbox today just to mod and got my xenium delivered this morning. I did the pinhead install (30 mins) and the OS booted right up. I'm now having difficulty flashing a bank with evox m7 from CD.  sad.gif

if you have windows xp just pop in a blank cd-r/rw and copy the BIOS to that folder, and use the windows write program thing. thats what i did for my BIOS file.

got all of you beat on stupidity.   biggrin.gif  i tried for 15 minutes to figure out why my xbox was booting to evox instead of avalaunch after i installed both to the hdd.  made and remade the bios making sure to boot to avadash.xbe first and everything.  then i realized my boot disk was still in the drive.  they did a good job with making this chip easy to use, but with people like me it will be a long time before they make an idiot proof chip beerchug.gif

I got my Xenium installed yesterday, no hitches, no problems and I have many of you to thank for this.

I just want to take a few moments to thank everyone who has contributed constructive posts on XBox Scenes... There's one thing I've noticed going through these forums... Most people are not researching enough before attempting to mod their box. If there is one piece of advice I can give, here it is: read, read, read, read, and when you're done that, read some more.

Almost every post I've seen, where someone has fragged their box, getting strange results or almost any other symptom, there is almost always someone else that has gone through the same problem. Just use the search and find those relevant posts.

For your information, I've installed my Xenium using pinheader, and top d0, using about 1.5 in. of Kynar. The whole process took all of ten minutes, and when I plugged my box back in, it booted right to the Xenium OS screen. I had previousy burned 2 CD-RW (Memorex Platinum 650MB CD-RW) using Nero 6, at 1X. Renamed both bios to BIOS.BIN and flashed bank 1 w/ M7 and then bank 2 w/X2 4981.06. Installed EvoX and used Slayer's 2.5 to get a few apps installed (namely XBMP).

So a big thank you to all the people that contributed to making my mod a complete success. Don't despair if you're having problems. Take the time to read, ask for help and you will work out any issues you have.

Just got XMBC installed (as suggested). Thanks for the advice, Psiblade, it's a much better app! I've got both dashes running (EvoX, ava), trying to evaluate what will fit my needs better. I've been reading that VoIP is possible through ava, so I think that may bias my choice.... On another note, I've also read that tHc can also do this, but I think I'll research that a bit more.

I know that this falls a little out of this thread, but I was hoping you might direct me... I'm looking for a solution that might reproduce the "friend list" feature of Live for VoIP through ava. It would be nice if this list could also update online/offline status as well!

Let me know if you know or have heard of this, and thanks.

Got mine finally installed today, it took 2 hours to do. I was originally going to do a solderless adapter but the adapter would not lay flat on the board after being screwed in using the screw that came with the adapter. The end would pop up so I couldn't get a stable connection. I wound up having to do the pinheader install which I was didn't want to do since I had no soldering experience at all. Fortunately I managed to do it. Works great.  love.gif

Soldering is an easy skill; most people just needs a little practice... Just find an old piece of electronic equipment and solder away!!

In my opinion, any other install method than soldering seems "temporary" at best. Before you reply, keep in mind that many of my friends have chosen solderless adapters, but when I asked, the overwhelming response was always a fear of "ruining" the MB, the chip, or both. That would be something to consider using the directsolder method, but w/ a pinheader, it's a no-brainer.

I'll add one detail that I've failed to see in many so-called "soldering" guides, flux. Use it, as it was designed to make soldering easier, and better.
