Focus Chipset Question
« on: January 19, 2004, 03:02:00 AM »

The same question was asked on the Official OzXodus forums and the response was:

QUOTE
The Xenium-OS works with the focus chipset although it's resolution is limited to 640x480 (Conexant chipset works with 800x600) so some screens will appear differently to those shown in the manual.

I for one are really looking forward to receiving my Xenium, I never thought I'd be removing my much loved Chameleon.

As one of the first to install an XENIUM.. I do love them.. however.. I'm surprised you would bother replacing a Chameleon with it.

If your Chip runs and is keeping you happy.. there is little reason to upgrade. IMO.

That's the nice thing about new chips coming into the market.. older ones drop in price quickly. smile.gif

HSDEMONZ<   quesion,

I was going to order the Xenium,   I have a V1.0 xbox,  so no matter which install method I choose I am going to have to desolder the LPC points in my box correct?  So  I was just thinking of getting a Cameleon of somethin cheaper.  Or would the Xenium be the better purchase?

Ok,  so I guess I will do the solderless installation.  Thats decided.  I didnt really want to solder anyway.

Now its just a matter of choice of chip.  The cameleon seems easy and practical.  The one thing I want to know is,  does that chip have a way to turn it on and off without having to cut a whole in the box and install a on/off switch?

Cuz I know the Xenium you can just press a button right?

With the toothy Solderless adapter.. if you want to leave the filled LPC holes.. leave them filled.  The Adapter literally digs into the filled holes.

If you want to removed the solder from the filled holes.. you might as well go all the way.. and do either a wire or pinheader install.

Fortunately.. there are alot more boards that have clean holes than filled holes.  With clean holes.. fill with the included rivets... screw-down the solderless adapter.. and enjoy a trouble-free no-misalignment problem solderless solution. smile.gif

If I sound like a broken record about the current Cham Solderless Wire loom adapter/Xenium Adapters.. it's because they WORK. and work well.

Course.. you use them.. you need to be able to find and identify the topside D0 for your particular board.

Despite multiple guides and references on XS.. and even the older CHAM and Current Xenium guides.. people will undoubtedly have issues finding or identifying the D0.. or worse.. (they might have poor vision) and not see it at all.

That's an advantage xecuter solderless solutions have.. as ithey are designed to align to whichever of the topside d0 you have (currently 2 different positions exist depending on your motherboard version)

I was in #ozxodus of efnet today and noticed one of the xenium developers was answering some questions for a guy on the focus issue, these are a few of the things he said:

QUOTE

[22/01 - 15:55] <The_Mad_M> v1.0 of xenium-os doesnt support component video on focus

[22/01 - 15:55] <The_Mad_M> v1.1 is almost ready with support added

[22/01 - 15:56] <The_Mad_M> just testing that right now dude, so please live with the standard av cable for a day or so, or setup with standard AV and setup xenium-os for quickstart! then you should be able to plug in HDTV kit again and the xenium will start with black screen and then boot to your default bios

[22/01 - 15:58] <The_Mad_M> k, well the v1.1 is gunna fix it soon anyway

The resolution of Xenium-OS is restricted to 640x480 on a focus but this restriction would not effect any games, dashboards or apps as it is only a limitation of the Cromwell bios that Xenium-OS uses.

Yes, there is an option in the menu to update OS.  Same as flashing bios.
