Ok, I checked out the video, and I have two problems with it.

One, the video does not start from the actual boot, so it's not really an accurate portrayal of boot time.

And two, giving the video the benefit of the doubt, it adds about 5 seconds to the boot time of the xbox.  While this may not be a problem for most, others who are debugging and/or using an app that is prone to freezing - a 5 second delay could be a bit annoying.

Again, as I stated before it's not enough to deter me from buying the chip, but it is definitely something to consider when buying.

That's a lie.  Look at the timer on whatever player you use for it.  When the flubber animation starts, it's at 00:02.

Though I agree that I'm not sure if it's an accurate portrayal of boot time.

I am not sure what player your using, but the first flash of green I see happens at 5 seconds.

i wanna see a video where they show the person hitting the start button and then the xbox turning on and see how fast it boots, i belive that it can boot with only <5secs added to the total boot time plus time to select your bios everytime you boot and such, but i still wanna see it

Eh, I retract my statement.  I was watching the m1v, but when I watch the mpg, it's different...

OZXodus only posted one.  You will notice a difference between the m1v and the mpg.. including what is actually displayed.

Yes but "ugly" splash screens go away after a few seconds, unlike xecuter switch blocks and LEDs.

I personally would not want to waste the extra few seconds...

Some of you people really do need to go get a life, so what if the xbox takes a few extra seconds to boot up, are you all really that sad and pathetic your lives revolve around an xbox?

Do you get into cold sweats when you've not played a game for more than 2hrs? WOW, it takes a couple seconds extra to boot, what the hell is the problem with that? I think some of you need to leave your xboxs alone for a couple weeks, go outside and breath some fresh air, a couple of seconds isnt worth mentioning.

As I said in the beginning, MOST people will not mind the extra bootup time, but there are those that use the xbox for debugging apps and it can sometimes require ALOT of hard booting.  Waiting an additonal 5 seconds multiplied by 100 can get on your nerves!

QUOTE (Ace25 @ Jan 8 2004, 05:02 PM)
Well, in my case, I am VERY experienced with pretty much all aspects of the xbox. I mod on average 10 xbox's a week. The problem is, with this chip, I can see these clueless end users (and believe me, there are some VERY clueless people out there) that I am modding their Xbox's for screwing around in the XOS and finding a way to screw things up.. and their wives, kids, etc..

With the Chameleon I tell them, turn power on to use the modchip, and if you ever decide to use XBLive, just hold the eject button for a second to turn off the chip. Not very hard to understand and not much in the way of others to screw things up. I have never even come close to damaging the 2 resistors for the P/E point, and if someone has done so.... they should not have been soldering their Xbox to begin with IMO. Heck, even Exodus fixed that problem with the Chameleon PE so in theory no soldering at all.. but I still solder the everything, pin header, etc... My rep is on the line and it's something I can do in my sleep so why risk using a no-solder method to cheat on time when I know it will come back at some point because of the pogo's or D0.

While I guess *I* could use this chip in theory (but wont swap out my Cham for it) I just think it is too much for 90% of my customers to comprehend, and if I were to boot up to this XOS and start telling them what to do.. that would be the end of my business.. that already is too much work for these people (yes, it is a sad fact, but what can you do?). And when I make $150 per Xbox modded I don't wanna be turning away these people because it just got "Too complicated" for them. (I make them buy the xbox and HD and I sell them the modchip + they pay me $150 for my labor) I will install the mod, HD, install every app/emu and fill up the rest of whatever size drive they gave me with anything they want.

So, Team OzExodus or whatever your calling yourselves these days.. think is the Noobs in the world. You have forced me to place a large order (50) for some X chips when I would much rather have bought Chameleons .. I tried to order Chams from EB2K the day of your anouncment about them just in hopes I may still get some.. but no luck as suspected.. So now with Xmas over and customers lined up out the door wanting things modded, I was out of chips, and no way to order any chip other than a X chip .. during Xmas season. Bad time to stop production on a great product just to put everyone on hold for a new product that, while yes, has more features, in the end, is worse for business. I have modded 100's of Xbox's and have YET to find anyone I have modded for even slightly interested in the xbox scene. They just want to be able to play movies/MP3s, EMUs, and run games from their HD. As long as they can do that and it works, they could care less about flashing, upgrading, heck, not a single one has ever even come back asking for a newer verson of XBMP/XBMC or EMU once I hand it to them. Can't you guys make BOTH chips?

Err, my thinking is this is perfect for newbies.

What on earth makes you think your customers would ever find their way into the XeniumOS, especially if you tell them to just let it boot by itself without touching anything.

And the fact is, if they ever were to somehow screw up their box at least with this one you could walk them through recovering, without the need to have it sent back to you.

And as for charging $150 per box, I can't imagine how you find 10 people per week to pay that much.  I must have modded 30+ boxes with Chameleons, X2s and TSOPs, and I have never charged a penny.  Even if I were to charge, I certainly wouldn't charge $150 for something that takes an hour tops.

But having said that, It would be nice if the Chameleon was still available.  I agree that the Chameleon with the P/E connectors was and still is my favorite chip.

So... Your saying that you can't use your Chameleon because it has a bad flash, but you will sell it and flash it with whatever BIOS someone wants?

What the hell does that mean???
