So I got an X3IR and I was sure I had read it replaced the DVD playback kit... I can't find where I saw it now and think maybe I am wrong...

So is there a way to make the X3IR act as the DVD playbak kit remote? I don't need the dashboard to play DVDs, I have XBMC for that, I just want to control things without leaving my 4th controller port plugged up.

Nope. All it is for is turning on and off the xbox. If you are looking for a dongle replacement, look into the xerc.

Gah... I thought that thing was only a built it yourself deal so I didn't look twice... now I see you can buy it all done I am kicking myself for getting the X3IR... I guess I will see about the XERC2 and probably end up getting one and replacing my X3IR. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

EDIT Wait... when using the XERC for DVD Dongle stuff do you have to still use a controller port? My real goal is to be able to leave all my controllers plugged in and still have DVD remote functionality.

Ive got an xbox that needs a x3ir, lemme know if you wanna get rid of it.

Did some poking around, it looks like your only option might be to hardwire the dvd dongle inside the box. The link is here.

The xerc is the same as the x3ir + led control. And the xir is a lame version of the x3ir, from what I read.

Shoot... I looked into putting the dongle in my xbox but I think that still chews up your controller port doesn't it? You cna't have that and a controller on the same port can you>?

NM I just read it, you can... I may have to go that way...
