Hey there,

Nope it's okay.. once the chip is installed but is turned off, you should have all lights on the spider on. Once you turn the Chip off the D0 led will turn off..

If this is what you get you should be getting the Spider OS.

im not getting an OS though... it just frags when i turn the chip on.....  mad.gif

I had a GX chip that did that, and it was solved by a replacement GX, so it might be a fault with the chip.

i have the exact same problem. i couldnt get the legs to work so i soldered all the lads from the back of the motherboard to the spiderwire pcb, and the d0 to the spiderchip. i have expected results (5leds chip off, 4leds chip on) and it still frags. so the only thing left is the pogopins.

and i dont think its a faulty chip, i can install it in to a 1.0 xbox.

What happens if you press down on the Spider pbc with a plastic object whilst booting up? Does it still frag?

well, i soldered wires from the back of the motherboard to the spiderwire pcb, so it has 100% connectivity. and it still frags when i hold the modchip down.

Try unplugging the IDE cable from the  dvd drive, then boot it... if it boots up properly afterwards, plug it back in (while on) and you shouldn't have to do it again.... this happened with mine just yesturday and that worked, don't know if it's an isolated incident or what, but worth the try, also make sure your Jumpers on the hard drive are set to cable select.

well, i flashed my eeprom with the wrong unlock code and it wont boot to the dashboard. i know the spider OS will boot because it did in the 1.0 xbox i installed it in.

i was reading through some X3 tutorials, because that was the replacment modchip i was planning to get, and i noticed that you had to solder a wire to an alternate 5v because the 6lpc hold didnt supply that anymore. could this be the problem? was there any successful 1.6b spiderchip gx installs?

did you try it anyways? i was having the exact problem with my 1.6b (rebooting 3 times then fragging with 5 lights when off and 4 when on) even tho everything made good contact,   put the banks to default,  unplugged the IDE cable from the DVD (left it plugged in the HD)  and it booted to the SpiderOS... then i plugged the DVD in Hot and it rebooted and it went straight to the spiderOS... then i flashed the Bios and got it to boot to evox(using slayer).. only problem is i still can't run any appz from it or games on the hard drive... but it does play DVD back-ups and i can ftp it without a hitch....

My hard drive isn't locked tho, i screwed up my retail hard drive and got a new one ...  all i can recomend is putting in an unlocked one...tho it shouldn't matter until you try and get into the dashboard

Double check you have the 5 legs in the right holes ( remember you dont need to 6th leg as it is only for V1.0 - V1.5 )

dank, definetly check the legs on the chip, if so, re-seat it as well. i had that exact problem, and once I re-seated it (with much patience), i was able to flash from the CD and no longer did the first install messages come up.
