You didnt do anything wrong.. you just havent finished.  You need to transfer a dashboard to your C drive.

that's as far as it's supposed to go.  once that penguin is up you know that an FTP server is being run on the xbox and you can upload a new dashboard to your C drive.

hehe i figured that out myself.....but now i'm having trouble with formatting my harddrive the hardwae options doesn't appear to work correctly
 and i think i wiped out my original harddrive....Luckily i backed it up prior to screwing it up. So now i need to format the patitions is it possible to do in my pc? if not could some1 please detail this process to me? In the meantime i'll do some searching to see if anything helps. Thanks.

you can use xhdm to format it in your pc, but why?  The chip OS will format the drive, then you ftp on the dashboard, flash a bios onto the chip and you're done.
