Yea. M8 wasn't very smooth with no DVDRom drive installed. There isn't much you can do outside of either changing to an xecuter bios, or leaving the DVDRom logic board connected inside the xbox.

Typically, you would want to install the newest X2 xecuter bios, which was X2 5035. This bios supports "no dvd drive" a little better than M8. As far as compatibility, if by "White DuoX 2" you mean you have a DuoX 2 GS, then yes, it will work. There are 2 versions of the bios, make sure you flash the one for version 1.6 consoles. It is named x2_5035_v16plus_512k.bin. One more thing, Make 100% sure you have a 1.6 before you flash cuz this bios only works for the version 1.6 and I have actually seen people get their version wrong.

X2 5035 512KB works perfectly on the Duo X2. Beware there are lots of fake Duo X2 floating out there, which are only 256KB bios chips.

I believe litspliff is still selling the genuine Duo X2 on the x-s btw.

Do you have Evolution X installed, either as an application or main dash?
