Modchip Works Only Some Of The Time
« on: July 15, 2010, 10:41:00 AM »

If I wired the chip to the lpc then how do I flash it.  the tutorials I read require removing chip from header and then placing back on while the box is on.  if its wired its too hard to remove and replace.

To flash it it should be as easy as booting into Evox or another flash program and flashing either bank. I don't think the Duo X2 has flash protection, but I could be wrong.

You don't need to flash the chip.  You're getting the Purple EvoX logo, that means the chip is already flashed.  If the chip is white, it should have started with Cromwell Linux, if the chip is blue it came preflashed.  When you get your soldering all lined out, you'll only need to install a dashboard and you'll be good to go.

You only need to flash the chip if the current bios doesn't have a feature that you want (ability to use large 137+GB HD's, VGA bios, etc).  Don't flash the chip if you don't have to.

Like I said in the other post, go over each of your solder points again.  Actually reflow each point, especially d0.  Make sure you didn't splash solder anywhere, even a tiny tiny blotch can bridge points on the motherboard (its unlikely, but possible).  Also, make sure you used the install tutorial for the v1.0 box.  I can't remember if there is a different procedure for v1.0 versus v1.1-1.5, but double-check.

If you get the soldering finished, use Slayer's and report back what it says for the bios.  More than likely you'll be good with what's already installed.

thanks.

so i resoldered everything.  I cant get the little logo up again.  just fragging.  the reject starts the box just fine.   I dont see that I have a problem with the d0 point but I am thinking of trying to solder it to the alternative point just to make sure.   I guess I can do the multimeter thing also to let me know if I have some cracks in traces or other invisable things.  can the multimeter be applied to the chip to help diagnose or only the lpc port?
