Duox 2 Possible Dead.
« on: August 30, 2008, 02:34:00 PM »

Hello everybody. I have a Duox 2 Chip installed in a what I believe to be v 1.0 Xbox.  It was working fine one day and then the next it will not boot up.  When pressing the power button, I get it to turn on and off 2x and then on the 3rd attempt, I get the "Christmas lights". The chip inside flashes Red. When I press and hold the eject button, I get the Xbox Splash screen, and then it goes to the "Your Xbox Needs Customer Service" screen with multilanguages.  No error code in the upper left hand corner.  Now when I switch the Chip to what I believe is Bank 0, I get a Blue Screen where it tells me all about my console, the hard drive, the ram, cd drive, etc.  It gives me an option to  run a cd or ethernet, and when i try putting it 3 different discs that I have for loading up the xbox on initial mod install, not happens.  I really cannot read the top or part of the left side of the screen because it is cut off, like it needs to be calibrated.  From my research that I have read, it seems that the chip might of went bad.  If I cannot fix this issue, I would really just tlike to unlock my hard drive so that I can use it in my computer for storage.   Can anyone shed some light on this for me.

The error when booting from eject is because the drive is already unlocked and the retail bios will not boot an unlocked drive. The fact you get Cromwell bios screen when booting the chip from one of the banks indicates the chip install is still good.
The bank you have been using is corrupted.
You can use the Cromwell bank and Eurasia to reflash the corrupt bank.

yes, the chip is still good, hence the flashing red light and the cromwell boot screen (blue with computer info). the cromwell bios will only boot linux, that is why you can't load your XBE boot discs with it.

as chancer said, get an iso copy of eurasia, burn it, and learn how to use it to flash your bios. do some research on your required bios image, so you don't flash some bullsht that won't work.

in the future, take care to not flash over your flash utility, and once you have it working, don't mess with your bios configuration, as this is most likely were you went wrong if you had it working before this happened. another possibility is that you used a v1.6 bios which will work for a while on a 1.0, and then eventually FRAG or give intermitten failure (or so i've been told, i've never actually made that mistake).

the "christmas lights", usually refered to as a FRAG (flashing red and green), is caused by a bios error or a damaged motherboard. since you can boot cromwell, you most likely have a working motherboard.
