Just A Few Questions...

.06 is F drive takes all and .67 is F and G drives split the space. This whole thing is called LBA48

In your X2 4983 bios, the list of dash locations should include C:\xboxdash.xbe in one of the choices so you get the stock MS look. The chipped bios should boot from D:\default.xbe as first choice so your backup discs will work.

You probably need xbtool to edit the bios to achieve this.

Something that just occured to me that I didn't think about before...

This system already has EvoX installed on it.  How does this affect everything else?  Should I leave it?  What to do?

What would be the pros and cons to using just F?  Pros and cons for splitting F/G?

Overall, what is the most simple way to get the box up and running backups?

I will answer the parts for which I know the answers:
1. A Big F drive and F/G split are personal preferences.
2. X2 4983 bios will give xbox capability to run backups. Evox can be used to flash the chip bios. You might want to browse the other brands of modchips forum sections in the scene as those get more traffic.

Update again... modchip arrived today, but in an envelope.  No sort of bubble wrap or foam.  Anyway, I installed it.  The first time I tried to power it up, there was no power to the chip.  I doublechecked my solder joints and found one that was questionable.  Re-soldered it and it is now powered.  I didn't have time to connect the BT wire or the d0 wire.  I'll probably get around to it later, but its nice to know that its not a motherboard problem since I DO have power to the chip now.

DO NOT FLASH OVER FLASHBIOS!!!

if you have a bad flash, this would be a huge mistake.

FLASH OVER CROMWELL, NOT FLASHBIOS.

you only need a G drive for a huge HD, so don't fk with that.

just use any 06 bios that will work on your model of motherboard.

the default boot path for almost any bios is 1st D:\default.xbe, so just about any bios should try to boot the dvdrom game first. if it is a backup copy, make sure you choose a bios that allows you to play backups.

once your finished, put in your game and it should play, even if your HD software is all whack.

if you have a bad flash, or flash the wrong image, you will destroy your flash utility.

in that case you will have to use the cromwell bios with a linux boot disc to fix the problem, which is a major hassle compared to just using the flash utility. i've seen it happen a million times.

if you need any more duoX2's, let me know...

That or you would have to hotswap, as I did mine because I had never used flashbios and I screwed up and overwrote both banks. But I had a smartxxx v3 that I booted with and hotswapped the duox and I was good to go after that.
